I know we have been through this before (and this is shamelessly copied from the journal so sorry if you already read it) but tomorrow would have been Anastasia's third birthday and I just wanted to remind anyone who isn't already and who is fit and able that they really should sign up for these things.

It takes just a few minutes of your time and really can save lives. I hate to think of another family not celebrating a birthday like they should be or feeling like we do right now.

I give blood and whole heartedly appeal to ANYONE 17 and over to do the same.. it DOESN'T hurt and you get biscuits and a cuppa afterwards.. get a doner card to and give away your organs when you pop your clogs too.. you don't need them when you die and they can save lives!!

I am due to give blood soon but I dont know when it is (I thought it was this month but got nothing from the blood people)

Did it for the first time a few months ago and you only feel a sharp prick for a second and that is it. You get the feeling that you are going to save 3 lives.

I think we should have an NSC meet up at the blood donors:lolol:

I would like to register for the bone marrow register, after seeing the story on the TV about the family from Hampshire with four sons who all had the same inherited illness. Unfortunately I have a problem with giving blood, even a small amount, late last year I spent a day in hospital under observation after my health centre tried to get some out of me for a test ordered by my Doc and things went a little Pete Tong. I really don't think that I could give a pint of blood, bit of a cop out I know but selfishly I will put my own welfare first on that one.

I'm disbarred from giving blood or bone marrow but would if I could. Organ donor registered although they won't take everything for the same reasons for why I can't give blood :(

I give blood 3 times a year, probably one of the easiest ways of saving lives that i know. Only something like 8% of the people that could give blood actually bother, very poor considering everyone wants blood to be available if they need it themselves.

Unfortunately I'm too old to donate bone marrow or else I'd register for that as well.

I give blood and have a donors card for my organs should I snuff it. Looking to go on the bone marrow donors list soon.

I give blood (I'm a silver medal person), and they've taken a sample of my blood for the bone marrow register - I'm just waiting for that call now.

I've also got an organ donor card, and I've told my wife what she is to do if the worst came to the worst.

I will live forever, mwaaahahahahahahaha!

I've signed up to the Bone Marrow register this morning, think they're gonna get back to me about where and when to give a blood sample.

Can someone post the link to Anastasias website in case anyone on here hasn't seen it? You couldn't read that website and not sign up (providing you're suitable).

RIP Anastasia

Just registered for organ donation, something I've been meaning to do for ages but this thread has prompted me finally to pull my thumb out of my (highly donatable) arse.

I'm not allowed to give blood because I've got diabetes.

I don't really understand why as the reasons seem purely historical. I used to really enjoy giving blood as it really was a 'good deed for the day'.

Maybe with more and more people becoming diabetic they will relax the rule but until then :(

Been rejected because I'm an insulin dependent diabetic, and an old one at that.

To answer the previous diabetic,I think the answer lies in blood glucose levels and the adverse effects this might have on any recipient.Any doctors on the board might tell me this is total tosh, but I do tosh, don't I readers?

But if I could I would ,and it's not for want of trying.

So all you fit 'uns,SIGN UP NOW.

They go in to two points in your pelvis, either side of the lower spine....well, they did 4 years ago when I did it. Apparantly it's even easier now and is only as uncomfortable as giving blood. I urge everyone who meets the criteria to volunteer. :drink:
