Worse happens on the Rugby field week in week out are the courts going to start stamping down on that?

Poor bastard, 4 months is more than most paedo's get these days.

Well said, its getting ridiculous.
Any footballer who's wet enough to bring assault charges against another player should pack the game in and take up knitting.

If this was a rugby incident, the game would have to be banned tomorrow.

Soft wanker, just get him back next time you play them.

I hope no professional footballer ever gives this cry baby the time of day again.
And before anyone tells me its the police that bring the charges not the player - BOLLOCKS, otherwise at least 6 rugby league players would get banged up every week.
Proper men!!

:lolol:

Ah yes, and every game would turn into a melee of players just punching each other out. Great stuff.
Well of course, Savage would get set upon by every player in every team they played.
Football should just get it out in the open, let players have at it before the kick off, then the last ones standing can start the game. It'd be just like a war, and some of these layabouts need a good war to kill some sense into them.

Kill 'em all!

(with thanks to Metallica for the inspiration for that last bit)

Hmmm, I hesitate to rain on your little parade, but it's the Crown Prosecution Service who bring charges, not the police. As it happens.

The police will investigate if (1) the aggrieved party wishes so, which he obviously did, (2) it is considered serious enough (double fractured jaw would fit that criteria, I'd suggest) and (3) it's in the public interest/high profile enough to warrant it, or there's a clear necessity for action (for example there are cases were the aggrieved won't pursue, usually in the case of domestic violence, but the offender clearly needs to be dealt with).

But it's the CPS who decide what charges are appropriate, if any, in all but the most trivial of cases.

In this case, it was seen by millions of people, so I'd guess the CPS felt there was a legitimate public interest in ensuring justice was seen to be done.
