President of FIFA Sepp Blatter says after last night's match "goal-line technology is no longer an alternative but a necessity"

What a dick.

i know we like to knock him, but hasnt he been advocating goal line tech for a couple of years now? ever since our WC incident?

Why are you criticising him? To be fair, it seems like he's come up with a good idea.

He'll be wanting to use those newfangled internal combustion engines next.

The timing is INTERESTING though, to say the least. As a goal being given would've been the WRONG decision.

Where's the calls for OFFSIDE technology?

No (and I could definitely be wrong there). Last WC he said that mistakes were part of what made football good. The difference of opinion, blah blah etc.

Anyway, re-last night, the goal was correctly disallowed, it was just disallowed for the wrong reason.

English team wins the CL on pens, Blatter wants rid of penalties.
England gets away with ball crossing line, Blatter wants goal line tech.
Bloody Blatter and his anti-English crusade

Sorry, went all tabloid outrage then

Love how everyone has been calling for it for a while now, but as soon as something goes in England's favour he suddenly agree's. Absolute p***, along with the rest of UEFA.

I thought Blatter had been warming to the idea recently anyway. Platini's the man who doesn't want it. It'll be interesting to see what he has to say about it.

Don't apologise. It might be stating the obvious but it needs to be said. How can this buffoon continue to hold such a position of power despite such OBVIOUS bias? As if his being a total crook wasn't reason enough to GET RID

These :)

I'd like the Goal Line technology, but only if they check for offside at the same time as Triggaaar suggests, if there had been GL technology last night, it would have been given as a goal, but it was definitely offside.

Also platini was quoted in may last year saying he never wants goal like technology!

And he controls the euros and champions league....be interesting to see if he changed his mind once master blatter installs it

This and this.
I hate Blatter, can't stand the bloke. However, he has publicly been in favour of goal-line technology for about 18 months or so. It isn't like he suddenly changed his mind last night because he hates England.

No. last night reminded him to pipe up again, because he hates England.

It'll have to be done like the review system in cricket where they check for a no ball when they review a decision. Every action in the build up to the goal would have to be looked at.

Very much this. I would LOVE offside technology. I know he was off side yesterday, but more often than not the flag goes up for offside when it is a borderline call. I reckon we'd see loads more goals if play was allowed to continue with the benefit of the attacking team. I'd like to see that, with the defending side allowed up to two offside reviews a game, much as it works in cricket.
