Hotel rooms. There are currently 9,000 in the country. Their bid said they'd have 84,000 ready. So what happens to all of these hotels after the tournament? Or is their tourist industry going to increase tenfold overnight?

Australia was such a no-brainer, it ticks every box, the only explanation for the choice of Qatar has to be corruption.

What a load of tossers in charge of the World Cup we should a 6 regional mini world cups with 6 or 12 teams then play a world league home and away so home fans could support their teams and it would be cheaper to run . Well Blatter not the only person with silly idea's.

Qatar's bid should only have been accepted if they had enough enclosed (air conditioned) stadia to play the tournament in. It's not like their weather is a surprise, its been f**king hot there for centuries!

Blatter is right.............in saying that non Europeans are also football fanatics . But it's European football they are fanatical about. Still, it'll be great to be watching Botswana v North Korea when Albion SHOULD have been at home to Arsenal (allowing for developments over time.)

He has now admitted it was a mistake, but it's not a mistake that has been realised after some new evidence has come to light ...believe it or not, Sepp, Summer in Qatar has always been that hot!
His admission to the mistake is, in itself, an admission of total and incomprehensible incompetence. It is also an insult to the football-loving world.

So if it still goes ahead in Qatar in Winter, and the Premier League shuts down for those 8 - 10 weeks, the way round it would be to have more mid week games as they have capacity for that surely?
However what would the other Leagues do as they don't have the capactiy, carry on playing through the World Cup?

All this nonsense about slating the European Leagues for not being flexible, is just a ridiculous smokescreen to hide the embarrassing truth.
For all the mountains of documents submitted, and hours of presentations, and visits by FIFA delegates to check the minute detail of every potential host country, to then decide to award it to a country without considering their climate just shows that all anyone voting considers is what is in the bid for them personally.
It is so crocked that you can't have a discussion on how they could possibly have come to this decision. Was their bid saying it would be hosted in the winter, and therefore a consideration when it went to the vote? Clearly not. So, their proposal WAS a summer tournament when the vote was taken, and was therefore done so with any consideration of the climate. You can't get away from the fact that this is the most blatant carve-up.
No matter how much Blatter tries to make it sound like the only problem here is the European Leagues being inflexible, everyone knows the real issue here.
I just hope this becomes such a farce that it does force change at FIFA. Not just a bit of lip-service to change, with the odd amendment to how they vote, blah, blah blah. But full on, rip it up, sack them all, and start again, change. It could only happen if everything was about to disintegrate, but if Qatar 2022 is facing a boycott with the major European teams/leagues refusing to release their players, or sign up to the dramatic changes to their League programmes that would be necessary .... then it could happen.
Once upon a time, UEFA and FIFA were treading VERY carefully around the major clubs fearing the dreaded European Super League being set up by the clubs. That's how the Champions League became the over-blown tournament it is today, to appease them all. What makes them think that old idea won't get revisited. They may even thrown in an International Tournament themselves, of Premiership vs La Liga vs Bundasliga vs Serie A etc ..... the clubs only have to look at the potential income streams and have the right push. This could be it.

All very well, but what about those clubs involved in European competitions? Most of those spare midweeks they have would already be used for these matches.

It won't be more midweek games, and nor will the World Cup be in the middle of the 2022-23 season. I'm sure the proposal that I read involved shifting the seasons either side as well, so that the 2022 season would run Feb-Nov.
It's madness. And what if we go through ALL the disruption of hacking around with the schedules for 3 seasons, only to miss out on qualification.
Ludicrous, it just can't happen.
