Bit harsh on the OP, it's hardly like we have issues with Norwich and he was only bringing up a point to see if there was any interest....and the replys suggest there was.

I remember the game and I think it may well have been Rollo's last so no wonder he may feel a bit peeved. Steve Foster had been bought from Pompey and, with Rollings suspended, he established himself.

It's true that Fash was not popular and took constant stick in a later game when he was with Notts County, not that it bothered him as a one man forward line. He was a player you love to hate but just the type of battering forward we needed so it was a great shame that his Albion career was cut short by injury and his death was very sad.

Incidentally, looking at that Norwich team, they also had World Cup winner Martin Peters.

Fash broke Rollings nose and then promptly whacked him again on the conk. Rollings laid into him and got sent off. The crowd were rightly incensed and took much of their frustration out on the ref, but wrongly resorted to racist taunts against Fash. Altogether a very unpleasant game.
It was a really dirty match, with Greg Downes being the worst offender. He should have been sent off about three times from what I can remember.

I may have the programme for the Carrow game in my loft. Went to two Norwich away games in the old First Div which was always a good day out. I recall at one of the N V BHA game a scarf being set alight on the metal fence that separated the Home and Away fans. Can't remember the score though.

Would anyone like to watch footage of the game? I'm considering trying to get hold of the footage of the game. Unfortunately, it costs, so any contributions welcome!

I was at that game, the North Stand mercilessly gave Fashanu the Monkey taunts, I can remember Fashanu laughing back pretending to act like a monkey.
I think Brighton actually signed Rollings from Norwich (along with Mellor), maybe there was a bit of history between them.

No harm in being reminded of the games against the Canaries. Always thought back then that our respective clubs had similar profiles and potential, although of course they have a slightly longer First Div (and now Prem.) pedigree. In the 70's/80's they played a good style of footie and in spite of modest resources often embarrassed some of the billy big bollocks clubs so it was good to see how the Albion measured up against them. The '83 cup game was a cracker.

Being recently exiled in Canaryland I find media around here inevitably indulge in a bit of a Canaries 'love in'. I recognise it goes with the turf but can be almost nausea provoking. Instead of quietly keeping an eye on their progress I find myself put off because of the syrupy acres of drivel. It's a bit like Meridian TV thinking the only footie on the South Coast is in Hampshire. The footie columnist in the regional daily paper made some ill informed cheap jibes about The Albion's circumstances a year or two ago without acknowledging our miraculous survival from oblivion yet at the same time he was writing about The Canaries' own financial debts. More recently just how pompous they got about attracting Benno from us. However to their credit it is good to see the same hacks giving Benno, Crofts and Johnson decent plaudits these days, so not all bad news.

I think it all stemmed from Fashanu breaking Rolling's nose? Was that the season Fashanu scored the goal of the season?

Remember this goal well from when I was a kid.

Always thought it was lucky, it was a terrible first touch and he just swung his boot at it and it luckily went it.

He could have tried to do that 1000 more times and failed at every attempt.

He wasn't a very good player.

I've never looked at it that way before, but before you slaughter him for his first touch, have a look at the state of the pitch and the way the ball bobbles in the build up to that goal. That was top flight game, and the pitch was like a ploughed field!
