whats wrong with the opposition?

This isn't ment as a snide rightwing dig. Seriously, when you think about it what makes this tory lot different from previous lots?

apart from leftwing media bias that is.

OK, maybe the UK is different but here they count and analyise the spoiled ballots and provide data on what was written on them.
Do they do they that? It doesn't happen in Britain, where they're counted, and then chucked in the bin.

I'm in favour of a blank space to write in your candidate on each ballot and/or a "None of the Above" option. If this won the election, then the process would have to be re-started.

I like the idea of a "none of the above" option but your idea for restarting the process is a bit daft IMO. So what happens next then? The same candidates re-apply? A whole bunch of new candidates are allowed to apply, meaning we get a choice of people who weren't bothered enough to stand in the first place?

Hardly ideal.

I'll try to find the press release from the last elections here, but I know someone wrote F-U-C-K down the four Fianna Fail candidates in the Leixlip area :)

If most people would prefer to have none of the offered choices, the only options are to either carry on with whoever who elected last time (not a democratic choice), have no representative (equally bad), or start the process again. While it is not ideal, it's the best you can have if no-one likes the candidates.

If you can think of a better plan, let everyone know!

How about if the winner was "none of the above" then the winner is still the leading placed candidate but a vote of confidence is called half way through the term.

Surely better than restarting the process for which I fail to see any benefit whatsoever.

In other words halving the term of anyone who is voted in on an unpopular vote. If that would encourage people to stand themselves if a majority dislike all the candidates, then I'd be happy for it. But it would leave someone who most people dislike as their representative - which wouldn't be that good.

We could have a system like the one in California recently led to the Governor being "recalled", i.e. a mid term election brought about after a public petition.

I still can't quite believe that he DOESN'T know something else. I have a few army friends who really believe that there's something very scary we don't know, which if we did, would change all our minds immediately. The problem is, when are we going to find out?

Blimey - if there was anything else we'd know about it by now. Or it's been planted.
