Also works well when you spread black pudding across the bread when making a bacon sandwich.

I think a lot of people are put off by black pudding when you get the thin, overcooked hockey puck version in hotels and cafes. A good quality black pudding has great flavour and works well with a number of dishes, not least under slices of belly pork.

Anyone in Burgess Hill should try the one from Thorne's butchers in the Martlets. It is triangular and has chunks of hard fat which keep it nice and moist. They are also Albion fans in there so always good to support our own.

ALL of this

Woman next door likes the Nutella pizzas from the pizza van. I'm sure it's lovely but doesn't sound right to me...

I do a great starter of Black Pudding on a bed of finely chopped portobello mushrooms, shallots and puy lentils with a garnish of watercress.

This thread has now got me thinking I may do this for Xmas day (replacing the black pudding with a chunky bit of roast Aubergine for the Vegan ).

Just give her a salad leaf and a glass of water. The average vegan palate will never notice.

All those celebs who face the bush tucker trials in 'I'm a celeb', have probably eaten eyes, snouts, tongues, arses, vaginas etc in sausage, black pudding, pate, salami etc.

I've eaten all that stuff, and it never did me any harm.

:lolol:

Having worked and backpacked in Asia together my Mrs now watches that with me and goes "you'd eat that, you have eaten that, you've probably eaten that as well...."

I assume you have never heard of a kipper fillet? ???

And in case you're related to Noddy Holder, a kipper tie is not something you have with milk and two sugars.

Kipper fillets 'may contain bones'

They always do. They may be little tiny soft ones, but I'm still not having it. Give me a nice HADDOCK any day. Proper fish, that. Doesn't require surgery before you can scoff it.

Can you imagine me breeding a quiet, retiring Vegan who wouldn't notice or mention it ?

And when you know they've got the moral high ground it makes it even harder

One Christmas, my sister, who is a vegetarian, but also eats lamb (no, I can't explain that either), sent us a very detailed list of what she can and can't eat, telling us what ingredients we could and couldn't put in all the dishes

Fair enough. My antipathy towards kippers means it has been a while since I walked on that particular wild side (and Mrs T dislikes the smell, which doesn't make for harmonious dining, either).

I suspect I'm spoilt, shopping for my fish here: https://thegoodsshed.co.uk/fish-stall. The main man will remove even pin bones from fresh fish with fish pliars (possibly Wusthof) before my eyes. They are pricey I'm told but they are so highly regarded even a devout vegan I know recommends them (for sustainability) and I can personally vouch for the freshness (none of that Russian Roulette with stuff bought from Billingsgate that may have been on ice for days) - all locally caught (unless identifiably not), much of it by the vendor himself.

Do you think we may have derailed the thread a bit? Oops!
