[Politics] Black Lives Matters on shirts

Nothing against it but the timing just comes across of jumping on the bandwagon. 3 weeks back they were all for making football returning a celebration of the NHS.

A one week gesture and then what ?

This is where I'm at. I couldn't give a shit what they put on the shirts, NHS, BLM, it's all just pointless box ticking.

All corporate entities fall over themselves to be associated with movements that are seen as positive. Remember the thread about jumping on the Pride bandwagon last year?

The BLM movement needs to work out what they actually want to achieve because the message is getting lost in all the flannel.

Nothing will change without political action and none of this happens overnight, they need investment in education and youth services in poor inner city areas. They need Police reform and training. They need to remove the glass ceiling across industry. Running round like headless chickens, attacking OB, pulling down statues and vandalising monuments won't achieve any of that.

Frank Lampard gets the Man United job and Sol Campbell takes the assistant manager’s job at Seaford Town FC of course.

Spot on.

Does anyone think that these protests will affect the issues in America one scintilla?

Yes, Britain has issues with race too as does pretty much every country in the world (can't think of any country that doesn't?) but we're a million miles from the situation in the USA.

By all means protest but follow it up by writing to your MP, maybe set up a petition to have it debated in Parliament, write to the media etc..... don't start pulling down statues, attacking the police, censoring old films and TV programmes etc.

Just comes across as virtue signalling to me.

Agree with what you said, however i don't understand the keep politics out of sport argument since politics and football have been entwined for over a century now, maybe even more. Games like El Classico and the old firm would be lesser without the politics that surround them in my opinion, also many clubs like St Pauli and Barcelona have politically represented their cities.

I think you may be confusing the Celtic v Rangers as political when in reality it is supposed religious beliefs - yes that does filter down into politics in this case, but I believe the religious part came first!

I've only noticed the word 'Gammon' being used to describe someone in the last couple of years.
What does it mean (other than a tender bit of pork)?

Could that just be because Sol Campbell is a shit football manager and NOT because he is black?

100% although the fact that John Barnes was offered the job of painting the lines on the pitch at Seaford Town as part of the Sol Campbell deal did raise alarm bells somewhat (he’d applied to be Sol’s second assistant manager).

Bloody hell, this is an embarrassing post

Oh hold on there's more :ffsparr:

Dear me, they're all out

And this one's just bordering on nasty. Couple of thumbs up too I see. Lovely.

Well done everyone :clap2::clap2::clap2:

What is YOUR opinion of the term ‘gammon’ then smart arse?

You really do have a high opinion of yourself, rest assured it is not shared universally.

Says man who consistently starts threads on NSC complaining that such and such has said/done something you don't like.

Gammon is a state of mind, often driven to puce tainted rage (hence gammon) at the thought that something 'right on' is happening somewhere in the world.

Happy to help

Happy to help

Blimey. It’s only just gone 9 on a Saturday morning and already it feels like it will a long and fractious weekend on NSC.

As a favour could posts focus on the topic rather than other posters.

Not proven. I think he did okay in a difficult situation at Macclesfield and it would be very interesting to see how Lampard or Gerrard would have done there with no money to spend and no FA Youth Cup winners to promote from the u23s. But Campbell is a rather prickly character who doesn’t come across as the sort of bloke who’d do the PR side of the job very well.

So not because he is black then? (Sorry for sounding a bit like Ali G - take it he's banned now too).

The problem is, ripping down a few dodgy statues, sticking slogans on the back of football shirts, replacing the Hollywood sign with BLM isn't going to change the thinking of one racist person out there, so who is it bringing it to the attention of.

Is the local Alf Garnett (ask your Dad) going to say, "blimey, you were right all along, those darkies are alright" - me I think not!

Good point.

I see a lot of non-racist educated people preaching to their Predominantly non-racist Educated circle at the moment. This side of The BLM Movement is a waste of time.

Nailed it there.

This film flam is meaningless, like the North Korean style worship of pride. Those that run football years ago used to vow to keep politics out of football, and that position has shifted and now the chickens have come home to roost. This is a divisive step, and just another one that makes many people fall out of love with football and its clubs.

The sooner we are relegated back to divisions 1 and 2, the sooner we can get back to the days where football was the priority. I know we will lose money and fans, but as far as I can see those that didn’t go to the Goldstone, Gillingham and Withdean are broadly no loss. They can go back to supporting their previous Premiership loves or burping the worm up in Mum’s spare room.

Hasta la victioria siempre.

The record of the 92 clubs in appointing black managers suggests that it could be a factor, of course, but who knows the thought processes of chairmen and CEOs?
