Depends what you're planning - battery life, heart rate monitor required or not, waterproof (swimming too ?), ease of upload to Strava etc. Can't really go wrong with the Garmin range, but there are loads from about £70 upwards (have a look on Amazon). For general running use up to say marathon time something like a 220 or 610 would be fine. Pop over to the NSC 'Official Running Thread' - loads of past discussions on this, or feel free to ask on there again.
