What a strange night at the Amex.

So flat on the pitch and also off it.

It started with the teams coming out to a half full stadium and never really got going at all.

Roll on Fulham and a nice leisurely Saturday 3pm fixture.

Yeh it had an odd feeling to it. Didn't help that we weren't able to dominate like we usually do. Oh well, point gained.

Strange that the three games following the international break have given three lack lustre performances.
Brentford home, lost 2-0
Preston home, draw 1-1
Aston Villa home, draw 1-1.
Thank heavens thats it now till March.

Saturday 3pm fixture. That's the key right there.

Football was never meant to played at 7.45 on a Friday night. It's been a long week at work and the sudden gear-shift from work-mode to football-mode is just to sudden.

Somehow, Tuesday night at 7.45pm feels 'right' but Friday at 7.45pm just feels artificial and and the atmosphere always reflects that. Saturday at 3pm is the perfect time for league football - especially once the clocks have gone back and the leaves are blowing off the trees. Friday night should be about anticipating the game - not coming home from it.

Always the same the first game back after an international break. That's three times it's happened this season. The team seems to lose all momentum.

Minute's silence perhaps didn't help, but not blaming that, a cagey start evolved into something flat and odd. Their goal was equally mundane and routine.

I thought it was a decent match to be honest. Sure we didn't really put our usual stamp on proceedings but everybody seemed to put in a shift. Villa had their game-plan that largely nullified us and that was by far the most disappointing thing. Apart from a soft goal Villa didn't really threaten for the first hour and for 10 minutes in the second half I thought we'd got our act together and were going on to take all the points. Bringing Grealish on changed all that. He is a class act when he plays like that...his first through ball was top draw and we were lucky not to concede. Happily Villa will now hopefully go on to be thorn in the sides of those teams challenging at the top. That is the good thing I take from tonight

I agree a strange evening atmosphere particularly considering it was a Friday.

Both the crowd and the players seemed tetchy, I don't know why?

North stand was shockingly poor, the quietest it's been in a long time, drowned out by that dreadful yippee-ayy-oh shit 1st half.

2nd half was a competition between the North and the away support to see who could be quietest.

Team performance a reflection of the support, rather than the other way around IMO.

Yes. Funny we all said the same.

Thought our support was poor tonight, but everything felt wrong.... Strange

IMO it is the opposite. The crowd gets excited by good play on the pitch. You cannot manufacture atmosphere.

Complaining about seeing empty seats from the pub. Righto.

Anyway, we said the same.....was odd right from the start. Even Reynolds messed up the team announcement pre kick off, completely out of synch with the big screens. GOSBTS wasn't belted out like usual either.

my point being some people on here were wetting themselves over an Amex sell out ,it was there for all to see lots of empty seats

Couldn't help feeling that that was an example of what we would face if we went up.

Villa were physically stronger than us and it showed. We had to scrap but tired. That would be a relegation battle in the Premier League. If we go up we will be outclassed a lot unless we invest well. But we will be outmuscled as well. Only Dunk, Duffy and Murray competed physically with Villa.
