No rain where I am this eve! Very humid though.

Seriously though, anyone with any no-how able to explain what is actually going on weather wise? Why do we keep getting battered here last few weeks with a mix of very warm sun (really lovely thisaft for example after another proper dark misty morning) but far north barely anything rain wise? Most bonkers summer I can remember so far after a very unusual spring too...

It's down to where the jet stream has located. During the spring the jet was way to our south and we were in a cold high pressure pattern, hence almost no rain and temperatures were below average.

June has seen the jet shift further north, but not yet into its usual summer position, so we have at times been in on the warm side, times on the cold side, but often we've been right in the acitve area.

This current showery weather here is because we're stuck near or under a cut off low, which has become detached from the jet and is just hanging around giving some cloud, some hot sun and with the humid air, thundery showers.

It's dry to the North, as they've been under higher pressure generally.

Hopefully as we enter July things may settle down a bit, but it probably won't be a straight path to proper summer weather.

Ah, this is what I was confused about - didn't know it's a low detached from the jet hanging over/around us. has been particularly humid along with the pretty dark weather we've seen a fair bit of lately! Really mad how many times I've had lights on in the car in broad daylight at this time of year.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Desperately need some rain here. Had a nice shower last night so won't need to water the garden today, but my water butts are almost empty.
