I can't believe what I'm reading.

We get drawn against one of the top teams in the country in one of the top stadiums in the country. What kind of reaction did you expect? Thats what happens when a big game comes along. In addition to this, the inverted snobbery of some people on here may be even further damaged when the new stadium comes along, because some of the people who only turn up to the big games are going to be needed if we are going to fill it. Personally I am incredibly excited at the prospect of 6,000 singing Albion fans at Villa Park, regardless of the result. So should you be.

You always seem to speak sense, and you have one of my favourite Brighton players ever as your name so you must know what you are talking about.

I, equally, can't stand the inverted snobbery on here. There are some people simply obsessed with how many games you go to. People support the club in different ways. I expect to go to about 15 Albion matches this season, the majority of them away games because they are so much better. Last season I went to less than that, and before that I went to about 10 games in 5 years. In the 5 years prior to that, I probably went to about 80. I have mates who go to four or five a season, just the big aways.

I love the Albion, but there are other things in my life. Sadly, I don't think you could say that about some of the goons on here. So what if half the Albion fans at VP are there for their first game of the season, they're still there to support the Albion!

Absolutely and I can't wait. I can't BELIEVE the negativity on here; we don't get many big games, we've had, what three since Cardiff? (Spurs, West Ham and Man City) so of course people are excited.

I should add i'm talking about REAL people. I'm sure there are a load of sad, nerdy, geeky, pathetic losers out there reading this who are saying "It doesn't matter, I'd rather get three points against Walsall than beat Villa in the cup." If that IS you, then kindly keep your worthless opinions to yourself you sad fucker as nobody wants to be associated with snivelly little dorks. Get a life for crying out loud. And a dream. And a bit of ambition.

I'm not sure that anyone is moaning about people going to their first games of the season/ever or about "plastic fans" or even about how many games they go to which makes them a better fan. The OP was simply about how f***ing pathetic it was on here within seconds of the draw, with people creaming themselves over Villa, and all the ridiculous threads about tickets, prices, allocation, trains, coaches etc when we don't even know the f***ing date of the game yet!

I'm happy for everyone to get a ticket, I know I'll be there, and I'm sure it will be a cracking day out whatever the result, but can everyone just calm the f*** down? It's like Christmas with a bunch of over excited 2 year olds on here.

As far as I can see it's all a natural reaction to the draw. I will make the trip from Spain for it, I can see the point about "wait a minute & let's get the details sorted" but let people enjoy the excitement. Yes we know there are Uberfans on this board & it is more than a little cliquey but let people knock themselves out with the joy of being able to show what a great following we can pull for these types of occasions & I'm sure the management of the club will be excited by the numbers too as it's an indicator of what they can maybe look forward to when a higher standard football is played at Falmer with our rise through the divisions, this is what TB is putting the money in to achieve.

On another thread you said you hadn't been to see Albion in years but will be going to Villa Park. Not coming down on either side of this argument, but it seems a little bit silly for someone whos already told anyone who quibbles because he doesn't go to games to do one is not the best person to be patronisingly telling others they don't understand how football works. Do you understand how Brighton and Hove still exist as a professional club for you to support against Villa?

Walsall is a far more important game and pretty much identical for travel. I assume we will take at least 2000 there.

I went to Walsall (the old stadium) a good few years ago - got into the supporters club with my mate and we had a great time. We got throoughly lubricated and were just on our way out to the game when one of the lads we'd been speaking to said "Don't forget to come in after the game". To which I replied "Yeah but what happens if Brighton win" "Don't matter" he said "It's only football after all". As it happened yes we did win - four nil -and yes we did go back in the club and nobody batted an eyelid, in fact they bought us lots of drinks till we were lubricated again. Nice people though I couldn't understand much of what they said (luckily i had my mate with me who was born and bred in Brum so had a chance of translating)

Also, why is it that when this debate comes up it's always put this way around, that the 'superfans' (a statusof which I am nowhere near) would prefer to be with 37 others who also attend 50 matches a season. Perhaps they are saying it wouild be nice if some of the people who manage to get a ticket for Villa as their first away trip of the season also made the effort to go on the same distance trip to Walsall a week earlier, a game which we will not come close to selling out. I'm in serious danger of being a 'snivelling little dork' here for suggesting a league game, in our current predicament is anywhere near as important as a cup game we will almost certainly lose, even if I will happily admit that I am far more looking forward to Villa Park.

It would certainly ease the pressure on both Albion and Villa's overworked ticket offices if no-one attended this game. The outcome of the game could be relayed to people via the usual media. And if the outcome is a foregone conclusion as you say, there's little reason for either sets of supporters to even consider going - they'd do far better to stay at home, save their money and find something far more productive to do. It's the sensible option.

You may even get the odd crazed supporter living abroad who's considering returning to the UK and attending the game on the flimsy excuse that 'it's the only match they're likely to see the Albion play this season, so it may as well be a decent one' - these are the worst cases of all and deserve nothing but pity and contempt from the computer screen, especially on the afternoon of the game itself. Whatever would they hope to gain from such a pointless exercise?

Perhaps you could reconsider your opinion here? This exceedingly generous concession seems somehow out of sorts with the rest of the post.
