4am, walking the streets of Cannes with a quarter of a million pounds watch on your wrist, probably looking like this off his FB account. Might as well held a sign up saying "I have more money than sense, including dress sense, please rob me".

Mugged in the jewellers when buying his watch, and mugged outside having it nicked. Yves is just a bit of a mug really.

I've never got the expensive watch thing??

Always thought its for those with more money than they could spend.

With mortgage, car and following Albion can't ever see a day where there's a few a spare grand for a watch.

Each to their own I guess!
I'm mean it's similar to wine or art etc. if you have the readies and are into it, then why not? Better than having money sit in the bank or in a boring investment fund, where you make your 5% a year and get no enjoyment from it.

Do me a favour. You spend 200K on a watch, you're a mug in my opinion.
Ok so you would say the same thing for other asset classes like art for instance ?

Lots of people, including myself have made lots of money on watches in the last 10 years.

Here's proof that Richard milles have appreciated 20-30% in the last 8 years.

But hey muzzman knows best !!

I’ve got two ex-colleagues that are big into prestige watches. Both have made a fair amount of money out of it………seems much more sensible than buying flash cars

In Mombasa and other parts of Africa they wouldn't bother mugging the thieves would just take your arm, so got off lightly?
I would take him back I think he prefers being a big fish in a slightly smaller pond.

Not questioning the retention value of the item just that the £ has depreciated by 20-30% so as a store of value it would compare to precious metals.

Isn't that the same with anything though. Property adjusted for inflation isn't that great of an investment either, especially in the last 10 years.

Absolutely, even Lego and the older Kinder egg toys go for silly money. The difference with property is that from when it was built to now its been paid for at least 20 times over if it was built in the 60's with the banks making ££££££'s all the way.

I know. Only if there were something helpful and useful he could spent quarter of a million quid on? Say in the country he plays for?

"Malnutrition issues, lack of education and conflict are the main causes of poverty in Mali. The average wage in Mali is $1.25 per day, and more than half of the population currently lives below the international poverty line. This contributes to Mali being one of the least developed countries in the world." 30 Jan 2017

I know dozens of people that wear watches that equate to a week’s wages or more. It’s all relative.

That watch is worth 36,500 weeks work - 700 years - for the average wage on his home country.

I have serched and yet to find anything that shows he's helping his home country like Mane, Saleh etc...
