I’m sure lots of people have mental health issues but many people in other countries just have to get on with it . I think we are over pampered especially in the UK.

I think there should be more of a distinction between real grief and despair and people who are upset about far more minor things when talking about mental health .

The best advice to give someone digging a hole….is to stop digging.

Not clueless - just aware that mental health in some cases ( not all by any means ) is a word used to describe a fairly normal reaction like not happy at work because your not getting on with your boss , so this can be described by the individual as effecting their mental health . That’s bull - get on and deal with normal day to day issues .

Despair not being able to pay your bills , despair over serious illnesses of yourself or a loved one , in other words big issues are likely to cause mental health problems but I do not subscribe that anyone can talk about their mental health no matter how minor the issue is because that detracts from its rightful real meaning .

Like many things in our pc world especially here in the UK, we are frightened to challenge anyone about anything and because of this safeguards put in place are on occasion being taken advantage of .

The UK would have lost the war had they had this attitude . Absolutely help people that need it , I’m 200% in favour of that but don’t pander to people who are clearly using the term incorrectly .

If you could just pause your digging for a second, how do you determine those genuine cases that ‘need it’ from those you clearly think are taking the piss ? What qualifications do you have to help make that determination ?

I genuinely hope you never have anyone in your family or otherwise close to you, or working for you, that has MH issues.

Yes, we appear to have treated him well, but he probably has his own demons and stuff going on in his life that are preoccupying his thoughts. Life isn’t always a bed of roses and we should recognise this.

It does unfortunately look that way from recent events, loss of form, body language and now this.

While he hasnt been his best, I think the criticism against his performances is a bit exaggerated. He was awful against Burnley but other than that he has been alright. Before the mistake against United, he really dominated the pitch, and last week against Spurs.

I do think something is bothering him but I'm not sure its the transfer that didnt happen. It might be something physical, he didnt look 100% when he came off against Spurs. We also know he has a fear when it comes to surgeries, he played years with a shoulder surgery before his agent convinced him to get it fixed (and during that surgery he almost died). Hopefully its nothing that requires him to go under the knife, but if it is, with one window to sell I'd expect the club to be as secretive as possible about it.

I've just finished reading that Washington Post article... jesus, what a car crash!

It reminds me of Micky Carroll over here, though he was more of a wrong 'un in the first place if I recall correctly.

I've got a bit of a thing about how utterly f***ed America is (leaders of the Western World my arse!), so there's a bit of confirmation bias at play, but that article just reads like an essay on how rotten American society is, once you look past its 'public face'

Bit sad really.. his first season for us he was rubbish, took a lot of work to develop him into the player he is now so at least owes it to us to knuckle down

He certainly wasn’t terrible versus Spurs, but didn’t dominate either.

I seem to recall prior to him signing for us, his form deteriorated with his French team. Very interesting point re surgery though and quite possibly the case.

He appears to have thrown in the towel in recent matches, giving the impression he really doesn't want to be here. Very sad in the light of how good he has been in the last couple of seasons. If that is genuinely what his current attitude is then I wouldn't play him any more and see what we can get for him in the summer. If his lack of effort means he doesn't get a decent move in the summer that is up to him.

Umm no, I do read conspiracy theories - not on Twitter or any other social media though. "Heard from a source" or "heard from a friend" has little credibility in my eyes.
