Wow I knew they were a bunch of sell-outs, but that really tops it.

Loved the first 2 albums.
But they clearly sold-out very early on in their career and i suspect lost a good many of their original fans.

I know it's not the point of the thread but I've always found them to be reggae for people who can't be arsed to look very hard for good reggae.

Which explains why they did well in America.


BoT . . . it was a big venue for a lot of those bands, which goes to show how much behind the bands the record companies where.

Yep, I’m not a big fan, even though he is credited with being the king of rockabilly.
I opted to go to this purely to see the mixture of early rockabillies turning up, teddy boys, hepcats, rockers, bikers and various otter off shoots. I can’t find the support line up anywhere, but it would have been along the lines of Matchbox, Rockpile or even Robert Gordon. Outside chance the Stray cats supported him, so I’d have been with the young cats, being chased around the venue by angry old teds, thinking we’re ruining their “thing”

Yes, their later stuff was very poor, but in 1980 they would have been well worth seeing.

Its all a matter of taste and individual choice but that is a poor year as far as I am concerned taking into consideration the talent that was around in The UK and USA at the time.
Can't believe how many have gone for Numan, I hated his music and still do.
The exception is Blondie, 10cc, and Thin Lizzy so I will get tickets for these 3.

Bon Scott died in Feb 1980, so November 1979 was his last UK tour.

Trivia aside: I saw Hawkwind on that October tour (not in Birmingham), and it was notable for being the only gigs they played with Ginger Baker on drums.
