Strap yourselves in. We're going back to 1980.

You have tickets for THREE nights at the Birmingham Odeon.

Who are you going to see? Remember the acts will be doing an 1980 set.

Loads of great rock options (Judas Priest and Iron Maiden double bill!), but can't resist:

Roxy Music
Gary Numan
Duran Duran

Play the game. Three only, folks. No "or", "but" etc.

If none of these acts mean anything to you, ask yer dad. Or grandad.

I'd go for 3 I didn't see live in 1980, who I like

Iggy Pop
Ultravox
The Damned

Others on the list I saw at the time, or at an earlier time when they were better than they were in 1980 (e.g., Genesis, Trower, Lizzy).

Good thread by the way Wozza :thumbsup

Already saw Alex Harvey and Thin Lizzy headlining at Reading 77, but if I had to go to Birmingham

Tom Petty
Captain Beefheart
10cc

(and I saw Pretenders, Joe Jackson, Specials, Buzzcocks, Weather report !) around then anyway

That is some impressive list

The 3 I choose now, would be completely different from the 3 I would have chosen in 1980.

But, playing by the rules,3 only.

Undertones
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Iffy Pop/ Physcedelic Furs

Edit. Iggy Pop, iffy pop sounds like a dodgy tribute act.

It really does show what a golden era for rock this period was. I got into rock in the early/mid 80s and the Birmingham Odeon was part of the circuit of about 10-15 venues every rock band played....and was on back of all my tour t-shirts. Need to think about which 3 I’d go to.......

also in interesting a number of bands have played multiple dates but months apart. Maiden played 4 times,2 support to Priest and 2 headliners all months apart from each other.

Priest Maiden double header.
Ozzy in his home town at that time would have been special.
AC/DC.

Ultravox - Purely for Vienna
The Specials - Purely for Ghost Town
Motorhead - Seen them before. The drummer is the best musician I've ever seen live, absolutely phenomenal.
