I was very pleased when Gilmour signed for us as I think he is a player who will work well in the De Zerbiball system. I also, probably mistakenly, see him as the natural successor to Lallana and was a bit surprised when he didn't come on when Lallana got injured v Villa. Or am I just stupid?
No, I don't think you are stupid. I think the substitution by De Zerbi was a dropped bollock. Hope he's learnt his lesson from that but not sure he'd admit it! Should have been Gilmour or Veltman imho.

The people I go with as well as me were very surprised at Enciso replacing him, we all expected it to be Gilmour. It could have been an inspired sub if he hadn't lost every single ball he went for. He dropped a ricket there, no doubts at all imo. The fact Enciso then got subbed would bear that out. De Zerbi is not the Messiah he will make cock ups as he assimilates his squad.

I for one look forward to a huge, rippling De Zerbi, resembling the creature that enters the bathhouse in ‘Spirited Away’, and a squad consisting only of Adam Lallana, as he is injured and spat out each time De Zerbi tries to assimilate him.

It’s only with hindsight though…..we thought it made some sense at the time as Adam was playing as a no 10, Billy doesn’t do that. After the Arsenal game is wasn’t unreasonable for DeZ to think Enciso could do the job but unfortunately didn’t work out

I don’t disagree, it was an experiment that failed though

Have to say I didn’t think it made sense but was happy to be proved wrong. Enciso is going to be some player

It’s the Sun but looks likely Billy will be on his way in January

I can't imagine we'd let him go, not unless Moder is very close to return. One of Caicedo or Mac Allister goes down injured, Gilmour would likely be an ever-present in the side.

Agent talk aimed at getting him more game time or an interesting loan move

Is it the Scottish Sun? They are always a bit weirdly obsessed with current and ex Rangers players.

They just literally make things up, it was the same with Patterson at Everton when he wasn’t playing, said he was going on loan and the next thing he was in the first team till he got injured. I don’t think even the players ever know anything about these stories.

It's the Sun; therefore you can make a reasonable assumption that it's made-up bollocks.

You need a squad with depth over a 38 game PL season - I'm fairly sure that's why the newly-promoted teams often start strong and drop away as injuries and suspensions kick in - and Gilmour will definitely be part of the overall effort. We're only 14 games in, and both first-choice centre mids are one yellow away from suspension, so he's going to be needed sooner rather than later.

I expect it’s a rumour leaked by GP to cause more angst for the Albion

But for those who aren't too precious to read it, it's actually a very reasonable and feasible article. The lad did come here expecting to play for Potter, and be gradually introduced into the team - that hasn't happened under De Zerbi (although that's not entirely unreasonable given the form and quality of Caicedoo and Alex Mac).
