blimey, anyone would think he's made a slur on the name of Mother Teresa. since when has Billy Connolly been prewatershed nice fluffy material? Why is Ken Bigley so bloody sainted all of a sudden, a couple of days ago people on this board where saying he deseverd to be captured, helping out the imperialist war monger etc. How many prudes on this topic laughed at Senna/Diana jokes - every one of you id wager.

with all due respect, that is an amazingly stupid comment

even for NSC

have a good weekend

so you're not going to explain why it was a stupid comment then?

as I said, If you've had a laugh at sick stuff before, shut up.

If you haven't though, feel free to vent your disgust.

Having read NSC for a while though I know a good percentage of people on here DO laugh at inappropriate stuff. Tell me why this bloke is different?

by way of explanation

I consider myself someone who likes curry, music, women and sick jokes.

bu

some currys make me gag, some women repulse me, I think some music is utter tripe and I think 'Billy Connelly's 'sick joke' is absoultely f***ing disgusting. I'm also not big on the giggles when comedians tell 'jokes' about child molestation, Auchwitz, rape etc.

but then I guess that's just me being a hipocrite.

I hope this clears things up a touch.

Billy Connolly is angry and disgusted by reports that he joked about Ken Bigley being harmed.

Billy's stage comments were restricted to pointing out the hypocrisy of some
people including sections of the media faking concern about Mr Bigleys predicament while enjoying the drama of the tragedy and exploiting it for their own ends.

Billy is saddened by any distress these false reports have caused Mr Bigley's family and he hopes that Mr Bigley returns home safely.

High up on the South Downs.
What a lot of precious prigs there are on NSC.
Connolly told a poor joke that was in bad taste.
99% of jokes and comedians aren't funny.
The Press coverage of the Bigley case has been hysterical as he chose to be in Iraq and knew the risks he was taking. The victims of, for example, 9/11 were people going about their everyday business and had no choice.

To be honest that ain't right but it's no less funny than Gareth Glover's arguments that it's allright to kill thousands of Iraqis simply because he doesn't like them.

God, it annoys me to see such a right wing, zenophobic, other-people's-lives hater such as GG try to take the moral high ground. Get down off your high horse or I'll hang you from a 12ft lampost next time you make a racist comment (tomorrow).

I was at Billy's show last night and he's clearly changed his material.

He was angry at the way the Sun in particular have mis-quoted him and said that he didn't say the "terrible things" he's alleged to have done.

Interesting point re: the mis-quote.

There must have been some sort of recording of that night?

Or a fair few witnesses?

Oherwise Billy can sue?

Off to see BC next week at the Apollo incidently. He made a poor joke, poorer timing but that's his trade. But that should be the end of it. Anyone who says they haven't laughed at a rascist, homo, disabled etc etc joke in their life is a liar. So by default you're being a hypocrit by criticising BC to the level being expressed by some. I'm more worried by the thousands of people who download these sick beheading tapes out of curiosity or fun, some NSC readers have even said as much on here before. Why would you even think about doing so? They're in the same book as child-pornography downloads in my opinion. If you want to vent your anger about the appalling events today then these persons are a more worthy target. Alternatively how about the fundamentalists that committed the atrocity everyone? Call me old fashioned......

I have neve said it is alright to kill thousands of Iraqi's because I don't like them. How fecking dare you, what the feck are you on about. I have backed the war , yes I have but I have never said it is alright to kill innocent Iraqi's are make rascists comments. Anyone who knows me will know I am not a rascist, my best friend and wife are Muslims. I have vented my spleen at middle eastern dictatorships and islamic fundamentalists , if that is rascist , they , yes I am a rascist.

As for the hanging from a lamp post , who are you, I don;t know you, you don;t know me but you feel you have a right to post on NSC that shit.

The trouble is Withdean you can't have an opinion on NSC anymore without a personal and totally unfounded insult being made.

Would you believe it but Tuesday night when we're playing Cardiff so I've had to sell my ticket! Wife has obviously arranged it, and also bought tickets for the Sissior Sisters that night too! Nothing for ages then 3 clashes on te same night. Dow!
We're coming in from Berkshire so my directions wouldn't be the same as yours I guess. Fortunately my wife knows London. I'll let her drive so I can have a cheeky lager or 2......

I think all this proves is that nothing is untouchable as far as jokes are concerned and different human beings have different sensitivity levels.

I wouldn't expect to see a club full of scousers laughing at jokes about Hillsborough any more than a Royalists giggling at Diana gags.

The point is, if there truly is one, that people find different things funny. I don't find Billy Connolly's comments particularly amusing but I'm sure there are plenty who did.

On the same level, I heard some jokes about Princess Diana that I found hilarious but they didn't amuse my mum, and not because she didn't get them.

In this country we have a right to free speech. If people choose to use it to make people who have been actd with such dignity and humility feel bad (I'm sure BC's joke would have upset the Bigley family) then that's up to them. If people want to laugh at it then that's up to them too.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I choose to surround myself with people who share my sense of humour but I also accept if I go to a see a comedian then I may come away thinking some of the gags were a bit close to the bone.

Pople can vote with their feet. If no-one turns up to BC's nxt tour then he will be off the circuit pretty quickly. If they do then he won't.

Different people ar amused by different thyings - it's all part of life's rich tapestry.
