I had my bike (Black Trek Madone 2.1) stolen from the railings by the A27 bus stop near Falmer station yesterday, I've been parking my bike there for the past 8 or 9 years with it chained one side and my husbands the other with the locks securing both bikes, thankfully my husbands bike was left, the 3 locks (retractable small locks) were all cut and my helmet was also taken.
I've always thought the area was safe due to the police presence but alas not this time, If you are one of the other 10/15 people who leave their bike there please consider using strong locks and be aware of the potential risk.

If they had fingerprints and a mugshot odds on they still not catch him our police force is so woefully underfunded. They don’t have time to deal with such “crime” these days sadly (had 3 bikes stolen, no longer bother to own one consequently despite purchasing several expensive and excellent locks but if they bring electric bolt cutters there’s nothing you can do. Scum)

Any reason why you don’t use the cycle racks at the Amex?

the inconvenience of getting the bike through thousands of fans, if i were to use them i'd have to walk down to the bridge car park to then use my bike as not safe to cycle down, we used to use them but felt it was dangerous with so many people around.

I presume your husband’s bike had a more study lock?

I can sympathise as someone stole the saddle and seat post off one of my bikes a few months back…..I switched to my other bike and a week later the same thing happened again.

Sorry to hear that. Might be worth checking if it’s for sale on local websites? A friend got hers back having spotted it for sale on gum tree. She engaged some “friendly muscle” to ensure successful recovery.

I will now. I’m 54 and have cycled since I was about 6 or 7, this is the first time it’s ever happened to me. Is it a new thing? Do the thieves pinch other components? Pedals? Brakes?

No his and mine shared the same locks, bikes either side of the railings. Mine was the road/ path side.

Yep, they have at least 1.000 doors to knock on next week cos someone watched a football match on the internet they weren’t meant to! Have to prioritise the wants and needs of the corporates first!

In all seriousness though, sorry to hear this, it’s just shit and sad people can get away with it so easily.

My son had his bike nicked last year when it was chained up in North Street. He reported it to the police (total waste of time, obvs).

A few weeks later, on his lunch hour from work, he clocked his bike attached to a lamp post in North Laine with a heavy-duty shackle lock (he'd had it stamped, and recognised a chip on the frame so it was definitely his). He went straight back to work, came back with 3 or 4 plastic fences to put round it, and an angle grinder. Set to work on the shackle lock, and rode it home.

We'll never know whether he "stole" it back from the vermin scrote who thieved it in the first place, or whoever he'd sold it on to. But its back with its rightful owner now anyway so who cares.

The thieving filth in this city want drowning at birth. Ideally.
