House two doors down applied for planning permission to build a garage - refused as it would mean destroying a beautiful old oak tree - a TPO was placed on the tree.

The owners felled it, got fined £400, reapplied for planning permission and it was granted!

If it's an upright growing one, rather than a weeping one, it could have really nice coloured young stems. It is common practice to coppice (cut back previous year's growth hard) every Spring, to promote this lovely colourful young new growth.
