[Albion] Big-Screen Blackouts – Who Gains?

The disabling of almost all of big-screen functionality last night is baffling, to say the least.
Granted, normality was momentarily restored with the VAR screens. Thanks for that.

But for us less-than-super fans at the, er, Brighton & Hove Albion Stadium, much is gained by constant, dynamic display of: –
Players' names and numbers (useful for those of us woefully unfamiliar with Greek squads' appearances, surnames and shirt numbers)
Goalscorers,
Yellow Cards,
Substitutes.

Granted, few other PL clubs provide so much information – to that extent, Albion fans are spoilt. But we've become used to it, and it works very well.

The commercial rationale for suspending all American Express branding last night is at least understandable.
But what is the point of replacing dynamic information screens with a useless, ugly, static template? Who gains?

Let's hope normality and sanity is restored on Sunday.

Has to be a UEFA thing, surely? Can't imagine it won't be back to normal on Sunday.

I guess, as with all things Euro, they have to standardise and homogenise across the brand. Just a shame that Euro rules couldn't have silenced that shitty OTT PA that ruined the pre-match build-up that was doing its very best to be organically generated by humans from both clubs

But the whole matchday experience was significantly diminished for all of us – does everything really have to be dumbed down at every ground just to conform with the Latvian equivalent of Withdean circa 2001? Who gains?

The whole thing was a bit weird, with the GOSBTS not as the walk out music, screens, the whole vibe felt weird despite being somewhere so familiar

I agree that the lack of screen information was poor, as was the random hightlights shown. Virtually nothing shown or replayed in game packed full of incident until about 2-2.

I often check the screens to work out opposition players it was really frustrating not having that
And no doubt we'll have the same when Marseille rock up on Dec 14th.

No one's answered the core question yet - what on earth is the reason for imposing a total matchday information blackout - can't be financial, there's no advertising..
So... WHO GAINS?

Got to be Uefa rules, they want to control everything at games I guess as they have little other control.

Most away games the grounds don’t have player information up on the screens and that’s in this country. Think we are in the minority of clubs that show useful info during the match. I like it, especially to see who’s on a yellow card. As to why EUFA dictate this I have no idea.

It’s definitely UEFA thing, look at how much changes within the stadium on a match day. They take control of the big screens so they are only displaying scores and the UEFA/Europa League branding and colours.

They’ve got different, larger, advertising boards around the pitch playing adverts that UEFA have been paid for (why else would the Dutch Just Eat be advertised during the Ajax game?).

Most of normal sponsorship around the ground is covered or replaced too. The boxes over the South Stand have their sponsorship boards covered with generic Brighton/Albion or blue and white coloured signs. Pretty much all American Express signage is replaced too apart from the new signs hanging off the East and West stand roof.

UEFA are more controlling than a jealous boyfriend worried their girlfriend is going to cop off with every bloke she sees down the Paradox on a Saturday night.

and I bet Uefa are extremely pissed off with those signs but American Express must be made up with it, although not sure how much they are seen during the match on TV
