Finally remembering all the work Tony Kybett put in, in the lead up to REMF 1 at Southwick FC.

The reaction to the donation for the minibus has been superb and I can only endorse all of the gratitude that has been passed to various people.

I’d like to pass a massive thanks to Gareth, (Uncle S.), for all of the hard work he has performed as chairman of the REMF, since its inception.

A mention should also be made for those from NSC who have quietly supported REMF with kind comments and responses over the years and for those who have answered the call for footballers, golfers, runners etc, when asked, because without those lovely people, we wouldn’t have had anything to organize.

Uncle S is on BBC radio's drive time this afternoon at 4.10pm. So have a listen.

A representative from the Seagulls Specials will be on as well.

Just came across this article about Robert Eaton called “9/11 Anniversary: A decade later” in today’s edition of Newsday.com which is an online paper for New York and Long island. It includes a profile which they published in 2001. I guess that he must have lived in Long Island. Was that one that you contacted Walt

There is a special report on Meridian TV tomorrow with filming of the Seagulls Specials and an interview with Barbara Eaton, Robert's sister. There is also a big feature in the Argus tomorrow. It is also being played on Bright FM. There will be a pitch presentation at the Amex at half time between BHAFC V CPFC with members from BHAFC and CPFC and the Eaton family and a feature in the match programme and on the big screens.

Nice one. Quick sub:

A CHARITY set up in memory of a Brighton & Hove Albion fan who died during the 9/11 attacks on New York has donated £30,000 to a football project which helps disabled youngsters to mark the tenth anniversary of the atrocity.

Lifelong Seagulls supporter Robert Eaton was working in the World Trade Centre when the terrorist planes struck ten years ago this month, and friends and fellow Albion fans have been raising funds in his name ever since.

The Robert Eaton Memorial Fund (REMF) has collected more than £100,000 in total, and announced this week that it will commemorate Mr Eaton's death by funding a brand new minibus for the Seagulls Specials project in what is the charity's largest single donation to date.

Other projects which have already benefited from the REMF include football schemes in Mali, Burkina Fasa, South Africa, Cambodia and Vietnam including a charity which helps young HIV victims and others orphaned by civil war.

And in Mr Eaton's adopted home of Queens, the charity has helped provide equipment for Los Peladitos, a football club from a deprived area of the New York borough, providing coaching to 230 Hispanic children aged between five and 16. Cash from the REMF funded a full kit for each player and 150 footballs as part of a three-year sponsorship package.

Since that initial donation to Los Peladitos, the charity has paid for kit for nine junior teams from Sussex, as well as four youth team kits for Wickham Wanderers in Croydon in recognition of the part Crystal Palace fans have played in making the REMF such a success.

Each year supporters of Brighton & Hove Albion face off against a team from rivals Crystal Palace - with proceeds going to the charity's ongoing work.

A host of famous names have taken part to help raise funds, including Brighton's greatest goal scorer Peter Ward, former Albion boss Peter Taylor and Mr Eaton's favourite player, Ricky Marlowe, who travels from Scotland each year to take part.

Elsewhere there have been sponsored bicycle rides, quiz nights, pool and darts competitions, marathon runs and an annual golf day.

The REMF was also named Sussex Charity of the Year by The Argus newspaper in 2009, having previously been shortlisted four times, and a Brighton shirt bearing Mr Eaton's name on the back now takes pride of place in a Manhattan sports bar.

The charity's chairman, Gareth Glover, said, "We are delighted to help and support Seagulls Specials for the tenth anniversary.

"Everyone who has helped or donated to the fund in Brighton, Croydon and elsewhere during the past ten years can be very proud of their achievements, and we all hope that Robert will be looking down and realising all the good that has been done in his name since that terrible day."

The 16-seater minibus will be presented to Seagulls Specials later this year once it has been converted to the required specification and the REMF logo has been added to the side of the vehicle.
