Re SIMSTER's suggestion, that 5th in S.America play the 9th second-place European team.

To be fair, are SCOTLAND really like to offer them any more of a challenge than Honduras???

I wonder whether Denmark's draw in Albania might prove costly. They have Sweden and Hungary to play - although both are in Denmark.

Unfortunately i think that result has probably let Portugal back into the frame.

and how about france and germany both finishing second (very possible) and getting drawn together in the play-offs, that would be tasty

Would love to see that... but never gonna happen *tempts fate*
When the 8 play off teams are announced i'd bet ANYTHING that, miraculously, the 'big' teams avoid the 'smaller' teams. eg:
France, Germany/Russia, Portugal/Sweden on one side, with
Ireland, Bosnia, Slovenia on the other.

haven't france noticed that domenech is rubbish yet?

or are they too busy having loads of sex and drinking coffee really slowly and shrugging nonchalantly to noticed?

Its weird innit?

On one hand he did 'lead' them to a world cup final. And i'm usually in favour of showing a manager some loyalty. So when they BOMBED in Euro 08 (albeit in the 'group of death') i suppose you could argue that he'd earnt a second chance.

But it did seem like they'd succeeded in the World Cup inspite of him, rather than because of any managerial nous. They were pretty dreadful in the first round, and then it just seemed like the senior players stepped it up.
