Igot my daughter one of the horns which along with all the other kids she created a din throughout the match, then when we got home she stuck it through the letter box & scared the life out of her mum with it. (similar to something I did to her mum a few years back)

I can't believe anyone seriously would object to the horns - they're the best non-playing addition to the Withdean atmosphere since Rocketman's sad demise - but they're probably best confined to the Family stand. But whatever, they're great.

Haven't witnessed the horns at Withdean yet, but anything that makes more noise and generates an atmosphere must be roundly welcomed, if it drowns out the whinging in the South Stand then all the better. I went to a UEFA cup game in Liege a few years ago, they had a band in the stand, that certainly created an atmosphere...does anyone have a spare trumpet?

It was a great atmosphere in the family stands yesterday. My lad has had one of the hooters for a while but usually have to ration the amount of times he blows it, but yesterday it was a free for all. He said his cheeks hurt from blowing by the end of the match. The noise was very loud but did get used to it after a while.

Did anyone notice Peter Crouch giving balloons out to the kids in the family stand yesterday. Had a clown outfit on but didn't fool me.

On NSC for over two decades...
I thought the atmosphere was terrific yesterday, I don't think I've sung myself hoarse at a home match for quite a while. And it was great that everyone was joining in!!!

It was nice that the Albion didn't do their usual trick of bottling it in front of a "big" crowd (these things are relative, and in terms of Withers 7,700 is a big crowd), so hopefully those kids will have enjoyed their day out and will be badgering their parents to bring them back - they can even bring their horns again if they do, just so long as they aren't seated in the South Stand!!!

Just like add my congrats to the kids in the family stand for providing a constant stream noise throughout the game. It sounded brilliant, I'm quite tempted to get one of those horns myself although I'm not sure how the serene residents of block F would take to being roused from their slumbers at some unearthly hour in the afternoon.

Is that the first time you've taken your lad this season? What was his impression of the day? I'd have to say it was the best game i've seen this season not just the football but the whole match day experience.

Been to most home games this season but he has been getting a bit fed up with the lack of goals and home wins over the last couple of months. We both thoroughly enjoyed it yesterday.

I think def. keep the horns in the family stands - the north and south stands for the cheering singing adults. Mr Coach and Grandad Coach would go nuts if one was honking away next to them in the North Stand!

I was in the family stand and if you are a parent - the noise is a necessary headache you bear to see the smiles on the kids faces!

I know this will come across badly but the bloody horns seriously affected my enjoyment of the game. I know that overall it is a good thing but some of the little darlings paid no attention to the game and persisted in trumpeting through the entire game.

I thought they were great (from D block distance!) and most of the time I tuned out of the noise once the game was under way. However, like others, I wouldn't have wanted to have been in the stand or had one blowing in my ear from behind. Guess I'm a bit of a nimby at heart :D

The simple fact is, we can't afford to have empty seats at Withdean, therefore if it takes flags, horns, scarves, giant foam hands to keep the kids interested, then that's what we've got to do.

Until recently, we were playing shit, but one thing I really noticed is the large numbers of kids walking away from the ground afterwards- they were all still smiling, waving their flags etc, and looked like they'd had a great day out and a chance to make a racket without their mothers telling them to shut up. Everyone else was moody after the crap performances, but these kids- dozens of them- didn't care, they just enjoyed themselves. They're our future crowds, so don't knock it.

Besides, you forget one major upside to the whole horn thing: if they're all walking up Valley Drive after the matches honking their little lungs out on those horns, it must annoy that miserable old man who lives up the road (John Catt??) to buggery.

Which is a tremendous bonus in my book :clap2:

(PS how long before the old git protests to the council about unacceptable noise levels in the Withdean area due to horn blowing?)
