Agree.

I posted ages ago it needs two tweeks - clear blue sky rule for offside (won't change anyting much but would 'feel' fairer to me) and a 20 second rule (if VAR can't be definitive in 20 seconds just go with what the ref decided).

When they draw the lines, the lines should be a minimum thickness (thicker than currently, but not excessively so) with the centre of the line aligned with the player's body part, and then if there's *any* overlap of the lines the ruling is onside. With the right line thickness, that should then result in those ridiculous 1-2mm offside rulings disappearing.

Nobody deserved that winner more than big Dan. The way he has come back from that nightmare of a first half against Wolves in January and gone from strength to strength demonstrating the quality and versatility he has is admirable.

I mean, it’s not completely ridiculous.. Dan Burn could do a job for England. Certainly in the squad.

It is.

Last night and in fact in the last few games he has been outstanding, but with all of our CBs fit he surely wouldn't be starting.

should go to the euros as our left-footed libero centre half... NOT joking

Now I think someone may be getting a little carried away as I'm not sure he currently makes the first 11 at the Albion when everyone is fit but, he is a proven Premier league player who always gets 100% from his ability and is outrageously underrated by some.

Quite honestly, if you didn't go absolutely apeshit at his left/right combination last night then you have no heart and you don't really have no understanding of the wonderful game that is football.

As much as I hate to say it, Dan wouldn't be first choice for the Euros as it should be Lamptey, White, Dunk, Webster, March

He’s a versatile option to have on the bench as well.

Definitely agree he’s underrated. Where he’s especially overlooked is his ability to drift into goal scoring opportunities. Pretty remarkable given his position and the type of player he is.

Very happy to have him in our squad.

If Tyrone Mings is seen as indispensable to GS because he's a naturally left-footed centre half, then Dan Burn needs to at least be in the same conversation because he is also a naturally left-footed centre half. Not getting carried away at all.

Well done BDB: - Saka did him to make the goal in last year's fixture. Dan won this year.

Did he, though?

Saka actually beat him very easily in the first few minutes, to set up what would have been a huge chance, had Lallana (?) not recovered to make a half-tackle.

He then had an utter shocker when with 5 yards headstart, he switched off, and let Saka get to the byline, and centre, resulting in Arsenal hitting the post with a close range header.

Two big moments that can only be swept under the carpet because they fortunately came to nothing, but are still worth noting when you are assessing the game.

Can't fault Burn's effort or enthusiasm, but for me Webster / Lamptey can't come back quick enough.

Neither were available though and their replacement made a great contribution to the team's clean sheet. Obviously Saka is always going to be a difficult customer for any defender and he would have felt that he had the upper hand over Dan before this game. He got past a couple of times, but nothing was ever easy for him. In the second of your examples, his cross was overhit because it was made whilst BDB was making a recovering challenge. Burn was also back to make blocks or covers for his teammates on several occasions. My only criticism would be the one he made of himself: He should have buried that header.

This is in no way an effort to dig out Dan Burn. Seems a top bloke, and nobody can ever question his commitment. He's where he is in the pecking order, and when he's needed he does his best. If the players higher up that list were available, then he'd be on the bench as a willing emergency option, and personally I'm more comfortable with that.

I have no problem with any Albion player who is putting in Dan Burn levels of effort, but to hold this particular performance up as a 'win' is just plain wrong. He made a couple of big errors, and we just got away with them.

Admitting he is pants at heading a football isn't really a glowing reference when you consider his obvious advantage of winning a aerial ball when he needs to direct the ball goal ward in attack.

Interesting he finds it amusing, it's not, because if he did manage to add that to his game he would be far more productive in front of goal, Potter demands players try to improve their game under his leadership,Burn is a hugely likeable player who has probably worked harder on his game than anyone else in the team, he must keep improving to keep his place and scoring a few goals with his head will go a long way to helping that aim as the rest of his game has clearly improved under Potters guidance.
