I think I would argue with anyone who classes QPR as a "big club", and Southampton.

I don't want to get embroiled in who is, or isn't, a big club. This thread was intended to be seen in terms of clubs in/around the Prem in recent times who've won f*** all of note whilst the Big 4 have hoovered up most of what's going.

The point really is the competitiveness of English football.

Contrast this with an amazing stat I heard this week re baseball in the USA; of the 30 MLB franchises, 15 of them have reached the World Series finals in just the last decade alone. There's a similar picture with NFL gridiron.

My point was only that certain clubs may well feel aggrieved at not having won anything for years, given their resources, tradition, support etc.

Fans of Newcastle, Everton etc, no doubt feel it's time they won something, whereas I can't imagine Southampton fans sit at home sulking because they haven't brought home a trophy since the 1970s. That's all I was saying, it's a matter of expectation I suppose.

Leg out of the bed
I was talking to a couple of mates in the pub and one said Sam Allardyce had been sacked as Newcastle manager after a few months because the Geordie fans wanted instant success. They haven't won anything for 39 years according to this table, so another couple of seasons wouldn't have mattered surely?

Arsenal are my team for the Champions League this season. Enjoyed watching Man U take it last time, don't think I'll ever want Chelsea to win it, Liverpool have done it before, so Arsenal all the way for me this time, comon the Gunners!!!

They might want to start defending properly then!

Charity Shield?
To say nothing of the Southern League.

In those days there were TWO major football championships in England and Wales - the Football League and the Southern League. Albion's victory in the Charity Shield game proved the superiority that season of the Southern League over the Football League.
