Royals linked with Mackail-Smith / Reading Chronicle / Sport / Reading FC

READING are being linked with a swoop for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Craig Mackail-Smith.

Reports suggest Royals have made a seven-figure bid for the 27-year-old year, with Simon Church heading in the opposite direction as past of the deal.

It is thought the bid has been rejected by Championship rivals Seagulls.

Reading have already signed two striker this month after capturing Jason Roberts from Blackburn Rovers and Karl Sheppard from Shamrock Rovers.

Meanwhile, Reading striker Brett Williams has returned to Madejski Stadium after his loan at Rotherham United expired.

The 24 year-old netted two goals for the Millers in an injury-disrupted spell.

That's a great deal for an average player
Average or otherwise, it would be a good deal if we had a replacement in place beforehand. Not so good if you've only got one day to find that replacement because then any selling club then has you over a barrel.
