It's bad enough when our top players are actually rumored to be considering moves away, why would we spend time contemplating the possibility when they aren't
They are going regardless what we hope or wish for. 3-4 times bigger salary, CL football, etc. Just look at previous transfer windows: White, Bissouma, AleMac, Trossard, Sanchez, Cuc*rella, Ca*cedo... top players get poached.

Obviously, it's frustrating and feels unfair, but I'm not naive.

It isn't naive to not want to wallow in the depths of misery speculating which of our players may get bought in the summer. Some will probably get bought so why make it worse by thinking about it now?

That said you seem to want to talk about it so I will argue that your premise is wrong. We (well TB really) always resists selling our key first team players that still have years left on their contracts.

From your list:

Bissouma - contract winding down
AleMac - contract winding down led to the release clause in a new contract
Trossard - contract winding down
Sanchez - not in first team anymore
Cucu - we said no until offered stupid money
Caicedo - we said no until offered stupid money

So, unless offered stupid money, it is quite possible we don't lose any key players this summer.

Now you can relax and worry about Bournemouth instead.

But I reckon some team - probably Chelsea - will offer stupid money for Baleba
And there's a good chance that some team will offer stupid money for any combination of Mitoma, Rutter and Joao Pedro

Is it really something to worry about. Just enjoy the ride and I expect there is a plan.

True but Mitoma's contract is both winding down (2027) and they are likely to be offered very good money this summer from champions league teams (given his age)

Baleba keeps going as has done and some silly offers might be imminent given his age, potential. (although club have given hints that they want him to stay for one more year). Yalcouye looks to be shaping up nicely as a replacement there, t he's only 19 but is , out of all of our loanees, having probably the most impressive season.

PS: just speculating. Club remarkably good at keeping replacements incoming, resisting offers , and re investing if they have to.

I would go further and predict we won't sell anyone we don't want to this summer.

I don't think anyone will come close to our valuation of Baleba.

Mitoma is possible. But who knows, let's get into Europe and see if we can get him to sign a new deal

Not something to worry about (previous poster) and agree with this (quoted) post 100%. The only issue I have with our policy is that if we only replace with new potential and not keep top players (offer higher salary or reach Europe), we'll never reach the next level (ie. winning something or reach CL). Every season becomes a "transition" or a rebuild season.

Well selling players from time to time is the model.
And as we've finished 9th, 6th, 11th and we're currently 9th and still in the cup with Europe still a good prospect with 2/3 of the season over then you might say its working.
Arguably we've had a squad strong enough to win something in the last few years (closest must be the FA Cup in 2023 ? ), and it was disappointing and perhaps not a reflection on the strength of the squad to go out in the Europa League last 16 last season .

PS: Its not beyond impossible for us to have a stab at the CL this season. We're 4 points off 4th (and 5th)

Thanks for mansplaining our transfer policy - I just don't see the point in speculating about who might leave us when there will be actual rumors to discuss closer to the summer. Not the same as believing no one will be sold.

Think we’ll let one of the stars go and no more……..the Ali Mac/Caicedo circumstances were unusual

Am I right in thinking in terms of league position we’ve only gone backwards once, RDZ’s second season*? So maybe have a little more ‘trust in the process’. Offering a higher salary has to be paid for and that’s a lot easier said than done.

*maybe Hughton’s second season was lower finish than his first?
