Hi all,
This weekends game at the Amex we are doing a bucket collection for the Sam White Legacy. This charity is set up in the memory of our son Sam White who passed away in 2013 after a five year battle with brain tumour cancer.
This is a great game to be doing this at for us as we have connections with both parts of the country, some family members support Forest and other parts of the family support the Albion. Sam was an avid supporter of the Albion and he was slightly biased also and very very proud because his cousin plays for the Albion also, Sam loved watching him play.
The collection is being supported excellently by both clubs, the players should be wearing the charity shirts pre k/o in their warm up. The club are going to show a film about Sam at half time because although he died young he did a lot to help raise money and awareness in his time fighting cancer. Sam along with others had ministers at the houses of parliament raise awareness of early detection in children's brain tumours, he spoke in the European Parliament in Brussels instigating the change in law in 2016 for European trials directives (which will save millions of pounds a year). When Sam died he donated his brain to science therefore much more could be learnt about his type of tumour and hopefully help others in the future. Sam also donated his eyes which have restored the sight for two children and helped another two children have re constructive surgery.Being Sam he did lots lots more, too much to say here.
My wife and I have been invited to come onto the pitch at half time and speak a little about the charity (hopefully we will be winning by then lol).
Our hope is that we can raise some money for the charity on the day which will go towards helping fund research into children's brain tumours and helping some individuals and family's with expenses (travelling for treatment can cost a lot of money especially when having to go into Europe which we had to do with Sam.)
As a fan and travelling 400 mile round trip to see the Albion we appreciate already that a match day already sets people back a few quid, but if you have a spare few pence and see one of Sam's friends or family with a bucket then please consider donating it (cheques are ok but we can't do chip and pin HAHA!!)
Seriously have a great day, donate if you can and may the best Albion team win with Sam's cousin scoring the winner......SEAGULLS!!!!!
