What with all the talk of crowd figures of late it is interesting to read up on UK conurbations of the particular footballing towns around the UK. We are 10th biggest in England so you would have to reckon on us being a club that have huge untapped potential.

http://www.information-britain.co.uk/about/citypop.html

Quite a few surprises though on actual sizes of places.

With the club in exile at Gillingham and people put off by the Withdean, it has been so long that we missed a largechunk of youngsters. As fans, we have a part to play in spreading the word, they will come, they need to be welcomed and then they will come back.

Pleat is a cock, we are a huge club and from what im seeing at the moment only getting better in the immediate future. So far have I brought along 4 people (inc my little girl with her season ticket) who have not seen Brighton play before, encouraged them to sign up online and attend the Gillingham game, 2 are coming back for tuesdays match, one of them for peterborough also (same guy now on season ticket waiting list) he is 20 years old and followed Liverpool. He has got the Brighton bug and need to keep him there (he now invested in a shirt too) he is a JCL as some will say but he is welcome, why not.

Also bringing another person to the peterborough game who not been before. The only term I put in there before they come along is they have to sing lol.

We need to grow the fan base again, so by welcoming new fans and bringing back missing ones.

yes because thoses figures don't include loads of places, eastbourne, crawley, seaford, newhaven, hastings, bexhill, heathfield, hailsham, lewes etc

there is a lost generation, however over time these can be won back.

very exciting times ahead under blooms guidance for next 30 years or so

The great thing about it all is that I cannot see Tony Bloom getting board with it all because its in his blood. So even if for whatever reason he needs to take a backward step in the future over the actual big decisions I think he will only ever be surrounded by people with right and honourable intentions. Because he`ll put them there.
Portsmouth missed a trick with lack of investment in infrastructure....... Tony bloom is far to savvy and honest to let what they did happen here. Take it steady, but take it forward and we`ll see just how big this club can really become. We`ve talked about it for years but now things are being put in place we will finally find out.

We've done our bit up here in the Heathfield and Burwash area, supporter club membership nearing 100 now and many of these are fans who have come back to The Albion. Quite a few are brand new fans as well and our 50 seat coach is full most games, the interest has been immense home - seagulls over burwash

Cheers, I think if the club ever get to The Prem gates would easily top 30k and our supporters club would grow massively. A lot of people are starting to ask me about how they can get to The Amex for a least one game, we have our own ticket exchange at the moment so its possible if they join up with us

We will, however, NEVER get gates bigger than 30k FACT.

I don't know how many the Goldstone used to hold but when we were last in the top division it always seemed full to the point of being bloody annoying but worth the long queque, missed buses, dehydrated gravy on the dinner and I'm sure many will think the same now even those who moved to London clubs for the duration and are filtering back

i dont think the population of Brighton really comes into it so much. alot of those people are from outside, a large number transient and a large number are not the sort to go to football. but on the other hand, the club does draw in support for most of East Sussex and some of West Sussex (Pompey takes over in the far West/chicester i understand).

i think the amex is tapping the potential quite well.

WTF!?! With runaway success on the pitch taking us to the Prem we could certainly get 30k+ gates with our own fans alone, let alone factoring in the 5-8k travelling fans some of the bigger Prem teams would bring. With teams like Man Utd or Arzenal coming to town a 40k capacity Falmer would just about do the job - the demand for tickets would be phenomenal.

I think he means the ground will never be able to hold more.

We never averaged over 25k in Div. 1 at the Goldstone - something that we did manage in Div. 2. In '83 we averaged about 14.5k in the top flight.

What he means is the capacity at the AMEX will not exceed 31k:thumbsup:
We could hit 30k this season no probs with certain games if we had the seats:clap2:

What one season we had 14500 in a really bad recession, otherwise our crowd history is very good for mostly lower league football:)
As you can see we averaged 25k in the 2nd tier:)
