None awarded that season, kind of a protest thing.

I don't recall it being so much a protest - more complete disarray and chaos.

I thought we left the job of voting for the obvious to the Young Seagulls.

The most remarkable example of this was surely in 1977 when a certain Peter Ward broke the club scoring record with 36 goals. The Albion fans voted their player of the season that year......Brian Horton.
Does this indicate, that over the years, we have become pretty good judges at who has influenced the season the most. Can I hasten to say, a little bit more discerning than some clubs fans, who might fall into the trap of voting for the obvious..i.e a player who has banged in a fair few goals.
( or am I giving us too much credit?

I think if you look at a lot of clubs' PotS, you might find it's not necessarily the 'big name'.

When a commentator says 'the fans voted XXX player of the season last season', you think 'hmm, wonder why...?' You don't think it too long, obviously, 'cos you probably won't care, but you may get to realise it's often for consistency and effort, as well as skill and goals, put in above and beyond what was expected.

Don't think so - my source was an email sent by Tim Carder in 2006 - which is why I say that it's right up to and incl 2006 - and I'm pretty sure that he would be right. Also I was picked at random from those who subscribed to the clubs text service to present pots to GB and I feel sure that this was 2004 (can check on the pic when I get home)
