Maybe. But not the worse idea in the world to have him on the bench to bring on to close out a game when we're winning. Might be a better option that Ince?

Did we use Ince in that role when Crofts was available? Wasn't Crofts injured in the early part of the season when Ince was brought on to shore things up?

Was a decent player, but don't know how much he's been playing lately, so is he match fit? We hardly need another unfit LB, and anyway we've got Ridgewell now to cover until Bong (hopefully) is back.

Ridgewell is only here for 5 league games and if Bong is not ready or has set backs with his recovery we are left in the same boat as this ttime with an option of Calderon, If Dunk or Goldson got a red card or injured before Greer is ready we would needa centre bck ......Ridgewell. He has been playing in Qatar so wouldnt think his wage expectations are high. It is just a question as we are down to the bare bones at left back even with Ridgewell stepping in short term.

Happy we've got Ridgewell. Good cover. Unlike Chelski or Man. City, we are not in a position to indulge in cover for cover for cover ad infinitum.

You are missing the point as it was suggested Bong will be back end of Feb/ early March bu which time Ridgewell will have been back in the USA.for a couple of weeks. isnt BFG expected to be out for 7 weeks.

Shall we get Joe Cole in as cover?

If we are a club with any sort of ambition, we wouldn't be signing a player just to keep the bench warm.

We need to be signing players with a view to starting them regularly.

Surely in that situation we'd be better off looking for a promising young league 1/2 left back rather than another loan?

We did that with Chicksen. My logic is that at 34 years old a left back wouldnt expect mega wages but has vast Premier League experience so could do what Tarrico did when Gus was here, step into the breach if needed without costing a fortune. Perhaps a contract to the end of the season,.

Yes, and Bruno and Calde could pick up injuries this week, which would mean we'd be going into our next league match with six (Bruno, Calde, Greer, Uwe, Rosenior and Bong) out of eight front line defenders all injured at once - that would be amazingly bad luck, but you can't really expect to have more than two players for every position - which we had at the start of the season. So don't expect to rush out and by a third RB too, just in case we need it - sometimes it will have to do to put out a team with the players we've got (although we are of course hoping that Uncle Tone fetches in a couple more this month - but not so as to have six left backs on the books!).

Of course we need to sign players with a view to them starting -where have i suggested otherwise? But we also need some cover as the squad, as it stands, is down to the bare bones. Bridcutt might not be such a bad option in that role.

The only way we could feasibly sign another left back would be as a replacement for Chicksen.
We aren't likely to attract a seasoned pro to sit on the bench for the remained of the season, especially an ageing ex-prem star. This type of player would be either looking for one last payday or a contract to actually play, either way we would be a poor fit for such a player.
If we get a further left back I suspect it will be someone from lower down the pyramid looking for his chance to shine, I also suspect, said player would maybe have more to him than just being a left back, kind of like a young Rosenior.

If we were a Premier League side, I'd agree with you. But I couldn't see him coming back to us to sit on the bench, and I doub't CH, PB and TB would see it as a good area to spend a chunk of the wage budget on.

A good point well made. We haven't been very good at closing games out and i think we could do worse than a wise old head to help in that. Ince lacks match practice and when he's had a chance hasn't taken it. Crofts has added very little this season and currently looks a shadow of the player he was. Maybe he'll improve? let's wait and see.
