[Albion] Beyond what transfers we want, what do you think the club will do?

I have a feeling we won’t sign anybody of note, just a few for the u23’s.

Molumby will come into the first team squad with Ostigard, Ben White,Walton and Gyorkes .

Obviously I hope I am wrong and we sign two quality strikers a central midfielder and a left back

While I dont think like half the squad will be replaced like a feew seems to hope/wish/believe, I think your prediction is a bit pessimistic as well. Sure Potter & co didnt say much about transfers yet, but from the little we've heard - like Potter saying that "mentality" would be key to the summer signings - I think we could expect a few names coming in. And while very secretive, there would probably also be a bit more signalling that nothing is going to happen, if that really was the case.

We need more pace. I think Duffy will go for his own career rather then we don't want him.
We have too many similar type midfield players. One or 2 of either Gross, Stephens, Propper and Mooy need to go and be replaced with a proper holding midfield player and a midfield player with pace although Alzate may be that player.
Up front keep Murray for his experience as long as he is happy to be a bit part player. Keep Connolly and add someone of Murrays stature but with pace.

I think possibly Bernado, Andone and Ali will go as they don't seem to feature in GP's plans.

We could perhaps ask about a loan or deal for James at Utd. Potter likes him and although he is not the finished article he has loads of pace and seems to be on the edges of the Utd squad.

With Lamptey, Mac Allister and Alzate plus White and possibly a couple of other youngsters being given a chance it feels like we are slightly ahead of the game in terms of updating the squad.

So I suspect there will be a limited number of new transfers - with maybe 2 departing and 2 arrivals.

I would be content to add a striker and an attacking midfielder. It will not be cheap - otherwise it will be hard for us to progress up the table without another 10 to 15 goals from somewhere. Our 'goals for' tally would have left us in deep trouble in the current relegation scenario.

Oh, and meanwhile I'd invest in some shooting boots for Mooy, Bissouma, Mac Allister, Propper, Gross etc and make them do extra training. At least one of them ought to be able to hit the target every 2-3 games, it is the Premier League FFs!

Tragically we have wasted most of that money and our better performers have been our cheaper buys. To be in the top 15 net world spenders over the last 3 years and have made as little progress as we have shows we have really failed in certain aspects of recruitment.

But this is mainly because we have bought 30 odd players and sold next to nobody.
Filling a premier League and Premier League 2 squad is an expensive business.

If the total current value of our signings was 75% of what we'd spent, then maybe you could argue the recruitment team had failed.
But when I look at the potential of players like Trossard, Maupay, Lamptey, Bissouma and McAllister, I don't think we're doing too badly.

Although not holding midfielder I think Molumby has gone under the radar a little bit this year. MiIlwall wanted to sign him permanently but we refused. Rowett has said that Molumby basically leads the teams press at times on his own, and I think it this will be something Potter looks utilise next year.

Personally I'm not sure a holding midfielder is what we need. I think defensively we've been ok this year, the problem our midfield has had has been linking up with our attack. However having said that, it's interesting to note that Ben White has been playing a few games as defensive holding midfielder for Leeds, maybe that's something we'll look to use when he comes back.

A friend who is a Millwall fan has been really impressed with Molumby and is gutted they can't keep him.

The starting point is that we have survived and this proves Potterball WORKS. He has a long-term deal so we have stability going into the transfer window.

I don't subscribe to a policy of "get rid of the old guard" because a number of these players have made useful contributions since lockdown. I think the questions we need to ask are whether the player is comfortable playing the Potter way, whether they have the required skills to play the Potter way and whether they are up for 2020/21.

Potter needs to know what his transfer budget is because that will decide whether Ben White needs to be sold. Ideally, he comes back and takes Duffy's place in the squad, otherwise we sell him and the proceeds finance the acquisition of a striker. I think Molumby comes back and replaces Kayal, Baluta has another season on loan in the Dutch league, Walton comes back as No. 2 and Button moves on.

I think the likes of Cochrane and Roberts need Championship loans. Connolly is a difficult one because he will benefit from a loan but he'll also benefit from being around the first team squad and I fancy the return of fellow Irishman Molumby may help both of them. I'd keep him here.

I'd bring in Lallana because I think he's quality and better than what we've got. I think either Gross or Stephens will need to be moved on to accommodate.

I'd definitely let Ali J go while he still has some resale value. Potter doesn't seem that keen on Bernardo either and I'm not sure his face fits, so probably best to get rid. Andone can do one. I'd keep Izquierdo but maybe a loan winger signing to be brought in to cover in case that doesn't work out.

The striker I'd like to see brought in to replace Murray is Jhon Cordoba of Cologne. 6'3'', 27 years old, 12 goals in 26 Bundesliga matches, Colombian international so Izzy can show him the ropes.

Plenty of thought given to that and not a great deal I could argue with really. I have it in my head Dan James will be here for obvious reasons. I would not even rule out on a perm basis.

Good post.

I must admit that I hadn't heard of Cordoba but looking him up on Wiki, he sounds exactly what we need.

Going back over the last 5 years, these teams have been promoted

Norwich
Sheffield Utd
Villa
Wolves
Cardiff
Fulham
Newcastle
Us
Huddersfield
Burnley
Boro
Hull
Bournemouth
Watford
Norwich

You can see from that how hard it is to stay in the league.

That's progress for me.

The annoying thing is, if Andone could only sort out his terrible attitude, we have one of the quality strikers right here.

Problem 1 - he has a serious injury and is out for a year
Problem 2 - he insulted just about everyone at the club and allegedly took pot shots at people
Problem 3 - we didn't accept a pre injury offer for him as we wanted to sell him for a higher price in a bidding war at the end of the season
Problem 4 - he has a terrible disciplinary record

The chances of him being on the scoresheet for us next season look microscopic.

I remember when he left on loan, Paul Hayward (Telegraph writer and Albion fan) said he was so unpopular that you'd be able to hold his leaving do in a phone box :lolol:

I think there will be 3/4 from the 25 moved on gp will look at all the players that have been out on loan and they’ll either be drafted into the 25 sold or loaned and judged again I also think we’ll bring in 2/3 big transfers 25 mil+

Yep, as mentioned he would need to sort out his terrible attitude (which sadly isn't going to happen).

I didn't appreciate he was out for a year.

Something's got to give, the club's in crisis.

Bloom, Barber, Ashworth, Potter, Winstanley and the Tea Operative all can't stand the sight of each other.

The Lancing complex has severe subsidence and is gradually sliding towards the sea.

Linchpins Montoya and Andone have handed in written transfer requests.

RIP our club.

Few mentions of Gyokeres, but can't see him being anywhere near PL standard based on his record at St Pauli - which I'm assuming is comparable to the Championship - this past season.

All I hope for is that we sign someone as ridiculously quick as Lamptey to play on the left side of defence. Get that ball-playing 5 man defence sorted, with 3 of Dunk, Webster, Burn or White in the middle, and everything else will fall into place.
