Following on from another thread, what was the best year for classic quality big selling POP records
Just reading David Hepworth's book on 1971, which he reckons was the best year for albums. I think when he was asked in an interview about the best year for singles was he said 1965 and I think he has a case, although 1966 would be in with a shout.
What are you defining as pop given that I wouldnt class all of your selection as pop.
Just got a copy of that book, on top of all the marvellous music 1971 also gave the world ME! ...now 45, that's a record.
Popular - Top ten in old money
Just realised - four of those i posted were no 1, (Baggy Trousers only getting to number 3)
So not pop but the year with the highest quality of best selling singles which is something completely different
This is not pop, even in later years I would never classify the Clash as pop
Bankrobber/Should I stay/Casbah![]()
Bankrobber is far closer to dub than pop
Rock the Casbah given its top 10 placing in the Billboard dance charts would indicate its probably the closest the Cash came to a pure dance record
Should I stay or Should I go - Maybe the Kylie version but not the Clash
