A little challenge to pass some time, a friend forwarded this to me on WhatsApp.

The challenge is to create the worlds best XI that have played whilst you have been alive, so for me it's 1991 - current day.

Rules:
No 2 players that have represented the same club at any point in their career
No 2 players from the same country

I'm still working on mine but i'll post in due course.

This is really hard - I've had a couple of goes but realised that players played for the same club

At the rate I'm going, there'll be an Albion player in there

1. Gigi Buffon - Probably the best keeper of all time

2. Cafu - Thuram runs him close and is maybe the better defender but Cafu overlapping...
3. Paulo Maldini - Could do everything
5. Franz Beckenbauer - Saw him play v England in 1972
6. Bobby Moore - Saw him towards the end of his career but simply brilliant

4 Lothar Matthaus - WC 1990 the power and shooting ability
7.Frank Rijkaard - Great defensive midfield player and a great engine
8. Glenn Hoddle - Quite simply the most gifted English player I've seen. Wrong era but what a player.
11 Zico - Absolute magician and part of the Brazil team of 82 that shoud've won the WC

10 Maradonna - Like him or loathe him simply the greatest player I have ever seen
9. Van Basten - Injury cheated him of true greatness

Much more difficult than I first thought and I'll probably change my mind again soon. I added the caveat of having actually seen them play in the flesh. I feel privileged to have seen these men play and to leave Ronaldo out was tough, not seen Messi in the flesh. I've also tried to make it a functional team with xome balance etc.

Also giving this a go.

I think the clue is reluctantly dropping players who have played for more than one top team. Eg Ronaldo (Man U, Real, Juventus) and replacing him for essentially a one club man eg. Raul or Giggs.

This will take a little bit of time and research... but hey, we're in lockdown here.

Exactly i'd have Boniek and Platini ,but can't because of Juve

Formation 4-3-3 (or 4-2-1-3 or 4-2-3-1 depending on how you see it)

Oliver Kahn - great keeper and while there's been a lot of Bayern greats no one really would make it into my eleven

Cafu - sacrificing, among others, Maldini, Nesta, Seedorf, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Ibrahimovic for this man but he was such a complete player

Tony Adams - I used to watch a lot of Arsenal as a kid and he was always insanely good.

Vincent Kompany - because why not.

Darijo Srna - criminally underrated because of his decision to stay in Shaktar, and really a right back but will be playing on the left here.

Xavi - a no brainer... damn, Messi... oh well

Anders Svensson - feels a bit out of place here but I feel like I need a Swede and even though he was too weird to be playing abroad except for the short time in Southampton, he is our most capped player ever and always performed in big games

Zinedine Zidane - got no French player and no Juve player so I might as well bring this guy into the mix.

Mohamed Aboutrika - best player to never leave Africa, if you watched some Afcons back in the day you could tell he was head and shoulders above everyone bar some of the best Africans in Europe.

Ryan Giggs - was pretty good

Pierre van Hooijdonk - Pierre is my favorite player of all time and never played for any really, really big club, so he's quite helpful here.

I'm going to reward myself for finishing this challenge by posting this clip:
