France or Spain for me. Bordeaux is just a rock steady region and the 2000 is fab, and would be even better if I could leave it alone for another four years, and if you get a good Burgandy (research advisable on this one) then it cannot be beat. But I have also been drinking a lot of Rioja lately and it is fabulous stuff. Also quite like Italian wine too.

Australian can be pretty good, and californian zinfandel is good, argentinian malbec too.

Could I vote for all of the above on this one?

I'm pleasantly surprised of your choice :)

I have tried french wine - when I was on excursion/festival with the high school orchestra - they were serving wine on every lunch - what a party! :)
p.s. I saw there are some visitors from this forum on our site http://bulgarianstuff.bgfree.biz and I'm searching for the thread with the link.

For my budget £5-7, I find Australian wines are consistently the best. I'm pretty sure at the top end French wine is the best. In my price range french wine is too inconsistent, I've had some real crap for £6-7 a bottle. It is also so confusing. I don't know huge amounts about wine but I do know I like Merlot, Shiraz and Malbec, so when I buy a bottle of new world wine I know what I'm getting.

Falmer, soon...
For me it's South Africa.

Superb wine, superb prices and because it's so cheap to produce over there, there's very little bad wine exported.

I pariticularly recommend the merlot by Meerlust, one of my most favourite wines.

Italian for me. French stuff is overrated, unless your paying a bit of money you can get some nasty bland or vinegary rubbish.

The French win this hands down.

For starters, they have Champagne whilst everybody else has sparkling wine...

They also do the full range of red / white / rose / sweet / dry etc.
