France. Better simply not only by quality but variety.

Most Aussie wine sent abroad is big, powerful, over the top and mass produced to a formula but if you're lucky enough to go to a wine producing region and find a small independant vineyard you could be rewarded with one of the best wines you'e ever tasted.

Selling Australian Yellow tail over here by the truck load, and it's actually rather good.

Did you know they don't sell Yellow Tail in Australia at all? I was sceptical when I first heard that so I *cough* had to check out all my local bottle shops when I lived in Sydney. And what do you know? No Yellow Tail.

It was all in the name of reasearch of course your honour :drink:

My favourite wine is Cote de Rhone Village and I have had some brilliant wine in France (they keep the best for themselves) so if pushed I have to go for France.

I really like North African wine at the moment. Tunisa and Morroco produce some nice, and reasonably cheap wine. I wouldn't say it was the best - I still think France have the best range - but it is certainly worth a try.

Anything that encourages alcohol in Muslim countries can't be bad IMO.

I'm partial to a nice Chianti. Especially when it's accompanied by liver and fava beans.

Used to be France for me. Cote de Rhone or a Bordeaux.

Like Australian Reds now. Hardy's produce some find reds.

Don't drink that much White. If I do, Chablis is my fav.

(Definitely NOT Blue Nun)

Everywhere can produce rubbish wine. Especially France - although if you are looking to judge a wine only by its nationality, I would probably trust the French, the Italians, the Californians and the Australians with my money.

What about Greece? Retsina is an acquired taste, but can be wonderful.

Cyprus "Sherry" on the other hand ....

Along the same lines as the yellow tail, up until a few years ago you couldnt buy Le Piat D'or in france. So much for the advertising slogan "the french adore Le piat d'or".

If any of you want a good tip on a good red to drink this christmas I would recommend "Faustino Nostalgia" a nice rioja for about £6 a bottle - its bloody gorgeous.
