Help - I’ve come over all BG (RIP).

I’ve recently acquired a PS5 and want a TV and sound bar capable of coping with the output from it as well as being good for broadcast sports and films/box sets via Prime/Netflix/Sundance/Starrz. I’ve done some googling and my head is spinning.

Current TV is a Sony LCD 40” inch jobbie, probably 6 years old; LCD, I’m pretty sure.

Wants:

1. Capable of meeting the output of a PS5 and HD broadcast sports etc
2. Bigger than 40”, no bigger than 50; ideally 45-48”
3. Idiot proof
4. Fairly “warm” picture - this is why I’ve bought Sony historically.
5. Capable of being mounted on a stand

Sound bar - umm, a good sound bar for the TV.

Any views? TIA.

If you don't mind me saying, you've started at the wrong end. First question ought to be - what's the budget?
It's not difficult to spend £3-4K on a TV and sound bar, but if your budget is nearer £800, then there's no point in discussing the more expensive items.
Equally, if you are comfortable with spending more, you will probably be disinterested in a £500 TV.

Happy to offer a few suggestions once we are clearer on how much you plan to spend

Ok - makes sense. I want to spend the minimum I need to in order to achieve my goal. £3-4K is ok, but not if I can achieve the same functionality for £1-2k. Part of my problem is that I don’t really (read: at all) understand what I get for the extra money and, perhaps more importantly, whether I need it. I don’t want to over spec (beyond the capability of a PS5), but I don’t want to under spec either.

I’ve read terms such as VRR, ALLM (?), 120 FPS, and a myriad more. I just went woozy.

I can recommend SONOS for the soundbar. They do a few different models/sizes so see which suits. The beauty of SONOS is it's scalability.

I’ve got the 55” LG CX it’s fantastic. Always had LG tvs and they’ve never disappointed but this one blows all previous ones out of the water. Go OLED if you can afford it.

In my personal experience, mid to high range LG TVs are just unbeatable at the moment. I have mine paired with a Sonos Arc, and the combination of picture and sound, for me, are superb.
However, most of the better TVs, from pretty much all decent manufacturers, start at 50" (and rapidly get bigger) so bear this in mind.

Your sig says that you are in Herts. So, have a look at the Richer Sounds website, find your local store, call them up and tell them what you are looking for, and they will be able to demo a range of TVs (tell them in advance and take your Xbox / PS5 with you, they will be able to demo, not just describe, which TV can make the most of your console). You will also get top class service, very good advice and a 5 year guarantee, and they will at least match if not beat prices elsewhere.

Just a point on timing - new TVs are typically released in Jan / Feb, which means that 'last year's' models tend to get decent price reductions to clear stock and make way for the latest models. The new models are generally small / incremental improvements, rather than huge leaps, so if it suits you then you will likely see £100 - 300 off whatever today's price is in the New Year.

Why don't you want 55 inches? If you buy 48 you will regret not buying 55.

Bigger isn't ALWAYS better. Especially for gaming. I want 65 for my living room (for films and football) but know that it will be far too big to play games on.

As I have 55" in both bedroom and living room and switch between the two regularly depending on what the wife is doing, I don't think I could play a fast paced fps shooter on 65 inches.

Fair enough. I'm not a gamer.

Totally agree, I was considering the 65" when I got the CX but the £500 at the time price difference meant I settled for the 55". The 65" would have been far too big for the lounge and I'd have regretted the purchase.

Partly because it’s going to go in a recess in the sitting room. It might take a 55”, I guess. Partly (mostly) because I think my partner would have a hissy fit if I came home with a humongous set. I suppose I could give it a whirl; what’s the worst that could happen? Oh, wait…

Many thanks for the comprehensive response. Getting a set in Jan or Feb would work if I saved £200+. I was thinking that I might be able to pick up a Black Friday deal…not that I know when that is though. Google is my friend, I know.

I’ll certainly try Richer sounds.

There certainly seems to be a lot of love for LG on this thread. I may have to put aside my reticence about buying LG - which arose because I’ve done business with them twice in my career and both times they tried to screw me over.

For films and football though, bigger is better! We also have a projector (sadly not set up anymore) with a 120" screen. Now THAT was good for films and football :lolol:

I watched the game yester day on my mobile would Brighton have won if i had watched it on a big TV?
