Forgotten that one. Surprised that you are a closet Deep Purple fan :)

Mate, I'm 62. I cut my teeth on the Beach Boys, the Four Tops, Spencer Davis, Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, then all the metal, Purple, Zeppelin, Sabbath, High Tide, then got into the Canterbury Sound (Caravan, Robert Wyatt, Hatfields) before I pecame a punk rocker and chopped off my hair  But I still like a bit of Purple. Hang on - I've just seen another blind man and, yes, yes! He standing very still!

Dublin, Ireland
I love Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy
Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak
Somewhere in this town

???

Band are from Dublin which does actually have more than one prison in the urban area. They may not have been told if it was Mountjoy or Arbour Hill

(its still a pretty stupid lyric)

Allegedly inspired by the Vietnam War if you can believe WikiPedia. Beautiful lyrics in the chorus :).

Oooooo ooooooo ooooooo
Oooooo ooooooo ooooooo
Ooo, ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Oooooo ooooooo ooooooo
Oooooo ooooooo ooooooo
Ooo, ooo ooo
Ooo ooo ooo
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aahh, aahh aahh
Aah I wanna hear you sing
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aahh, aahh aahh
Aaahhhh
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aahh, aahh aahh
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aaaahh aaaahh aaaahh
Aahh, aahh aahh

At 61 I am a mere youngster. Did you ever frequent the Hungry Years, would probably have bumped into youi there at some point in the early '80's

:lolol:

I lived in the Years between around 74 and 78, till Stewart the DJ stopped playing punk (and smashed his copy of Anarchy in the UK, flamboyantly, one Saturday night).

Behind My Eyes
moving the goalposts slightly ... have always found these lyrics pretty disturbing:

Got myself a cryin', talkin', sleepin', walkin', livin' doll
Got to do my best to please her just 'cause she's a livin' doll
Got a roamin' eye and that is why she satisfies my soul
Got the one and only walkin', talkin', livin' doll
Take a look at her hair, it's real
If you don't believe what I say, just feel
I'm gonna lock her up in a trunk so no big hunk
Can steal her away from me

Wic hit a lineman Glenn Campbell. The theme is of a good tune and strange words. But the second part of the song is very good. And after all the loves of my life etc.

The lyrics are all a bit horribly rape-y TBH. A shame because the underlying tune is pretty decent.

Thought it only right to prove my point about Deep Purple and the blind man.

Here's 'when a blind man cries':

If you're leaving, close the door
I'm not expecting people, anymore
Hear me grieving, lying on the floor
Whether I'm drunk or dead, I really ain't too sure
I'm a blind man
I'm a blind man
And my world is pale
When a blind man cries
Lord, you know
There ain't a sadder tale

Blind man #2; Child in time:

Sweet child in time
You'll see the line
The line that's drawn between
Good and bad
See the blind man
Shooting at the world
Bullets flying
Ohh taking toll

Blind man #3; Pictures of home (not much ****ing use to a blind man, I'll grant you):

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And whispering pictures of home
Wondering blindly
How can they find me
Maybe they don't even know
My body is shaking
Anticipating
The call of the black footed crow

Deep Purple, standing on a hill variation; Fireball:

The golden light above you
Shows me where you're from
The magic in your eye bewitches
All you gaze upon
You stand up on your hill
And be bop all around you
They wonder where you're from, oh yeah
They wonder where I found you

Blind man #4; Black Knight, this time it is implied....

Black night is not right
I don't feel so bright
I don't care to sit tight
Maybe I'll find on the way down the line that I'm free
Free to be me.
Black night is a long way from home
I don't need a dark tree
I don't want a rough sea
I can't feel, I can't see

Visionary.

But that's poetry! It's lovely

I thought this thread would be easy, so many songs have silly lyrics (I thought). Out of sheer bitchiness I waded through U2 lyrics yesterday and couldn't find anything bad at all (which was annoying  )

Not even St. Bono's line in the Band Aid single? To be fair, he didn't write it. Tho a bit bizarre that he (or anyone at all) agreed to sing it

Sussex by the Sea
Well, I gave him roasted toadstools
And a glass of dandelion wine. (*burp* Pardon...)
Then I put him on a train to Eastbourne
Carried his bag, and gave him a fag

This song has had me wincing at the lyrics for decades.
Not exactly the lyrics themselves, just the continual cheesiness of the rhymes.
Brilliant songwriters, but this is just line after line of cheese.

I saw a documentary once where Difford and Tillbrook claimed it was one of their lyrical triumphs!!
I assume their tongues were very firmly in their cheeks.

I got a job with Stanley
He said I'd come in handy.

This morning at 4:50
I took her rather nifty

FFS!

I always thought that the lyrics were simple and quite plain because it was a song about a simple and plain bloke. Nothing fancy about this story just an everyday heartbreaking tale of love.

For me the lyrics fit the narrative of the song perfectly.
