With two albums out today covering the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin (Revamp and Restoration) I was trying to think of the best tribute album.

These are usually various artists offerings although occasionally someone will put out an album covering the songs of someone else (Mostly Album - Pink Floyd and Randy Bachman - George Harrison being two examples)

No doubt The Beatles probably have the most tribute albums.

But do you give these a listen or have any personal favourites

As a concept Pink Floyd dub version probably doesn't sound great but here's Money from Dub Side of the Moon

The Pixies, REM, McCulloch, Forster, Cave, Cole, Astor, That Petrol Emotion and plenty more, but mainly this:

He rescued the song from oblivion. Buckley covered Cale's version, not Cohen's. He even told Cale that he was doing his version. Not as well as Cale did.

I think you'll find he rescued the song, i defy anyone to not get emotional @1:50

An album containing some absolute gems that is a tribute to an era, rather than a single band:

Not an album, but as tributes go, the guitar solo from Prince at 3.25 is a bit special. (And there's that drummer from Brighton again)

Absolutely fantastic album. Is there no limit to the talent at DRA's disposal ? ! am of course referring to Ryan Adams' cover of 1989. It is however, not a tribute album.
