Best supermarket ones I’ve tasted this year are M & S . Best overall are the ones from Truffles bakery . Lovely generous tasty filing and buttery not too thick pastry .

Worst so far has been Tesco from their fresh bakery section , barely any filing and horrible tasting thick pastry .

I’ve gone for Waitrose but I closely follow that with Lidl. Very close but Waitrose just pips it.

I am a huge fan of a puff pastry mince pie from the bakery section of a supermarket, warm them up in the oven and serve with hot traditional yellow custard.

I did a blind taste test 2 Xmas ago with all the family. All the usual brands plus a local Artisan bakers and do you know what won it?

Greggs, yes Greggs mince pies. Waitrose underperformed the most.

I love those taste test comparisons. Without, the assumption would always be Waitrose and M&S are the best at everything.

I guess so but only to the locals who live in Piccadilly and who earn more than £250,000 a year . I read a couple of years ago that an average weeks supermarket shop there will cost £465. Presumably for a family of 4 . Makes Waitrose look a bargain I guess .

I believe the Royal Family qualify it as a corner shop and Harrods a "Tesco Express" that has gone very very downhill due to management changes in the 80s.

Not had any yet this year but I do like a Sainsbury's puff pastry mince pie.

I remember getting some Waitrose posh version last year and they were MILES too sweet, borderline inedible.

Will go Aldi or Lidl this year.
