Lords on Saturday was incredible for me... was there with two brothers (missed you Titanic...), two nephews and my best mate... managed to smuggle two bottles of wine in and drink them both by 11.00am... proceeded to have just the most brilliant day - determined to have a laugh win or lose, bantering with the Lanky (especially one bloke who lost the plot completely), a bit of gallows humour at times but then when Sussex started to fight back it just turned from great into awesome...

so, where does it fit in my alltime Sporting Days Out?

I reckon very near the top - similar day to Cardiff - sandwiched between Wembley and Highbury

How do other sporting events compare to the great Albion occasions in your list? (exclude foreign travel as that confuses it...)

the good Albion days out are very hard to compete with - Saturday did it for me but not much else has...

Scotland v England in the old Home Internationals. Never used to miss one. Wembley one year, Hampden the next. Magic.
now that sounds good! were you at Hampden when Steve Bull scored? (there weren't many England there that day?)

Grand Prix weekends are always entertaining for me, England at Twickers in he Rugby or Football internationals are always a good atmosphere. My best non Albion day out was probably Dallas Cowboys V's the Chicago Bears at Wembley some years ago. great day out and superb atmosphere. Oh and the Dallas Cowgirls:love:

Some of the England ones have beaten them;

Scotland v England in 1999
Germany v England in Belgium in 2000
Germany v England in Munich in 2001
England v Argentina in Sappora in 2002

Plymouth v Brighton in 2001 was pretty special and I guess Hereford v Brighton gets a mention, not a great game, but the result etc.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Real Madrid v Aberdeen

European Cup Winners Cup final 1983.

2-1 winners in extra time in the Ulevi Stadium Gothembourg, it doesnt get any more special than that

Is that were you got caught stealing?:lolol:

Er, it wasn't stealing, it was more borrowing without asking. And it was free wine anyway. And no, we didn't get caught that day, that was at the 'soccer' where we weren't actually working.

Yes, yes it was.

McGhee was a good player for us, but it was always Strachan you wanted to be in the playground knock about.

I always wanted to be your name sake Rougvie. Probably because I was a bit of a nutter at school and a psycho when playing footy.

blimey BMF... being picked up on those sort of technicalities takes me back :lolol:

my original request was to keep it UK based as overseas trips are always likely to raise the tariff (e.g. Ashes 02/03) but I see anarchy has prevailed as usual...

anyone done the Ryder Cup or a big boxing match?

No, a bit after my time, but I was there in 1979 when Kevin Keegan scored England's 42nd best ever goal v Scotland ('A brave, low finish after an industrious run from halfway and a defence-splitting one-two movement.'). Bit of a shame really, I'm probably partially to blame cos I was working at the Beeb at the time, and me and me bruv happened to bump into KK three days lbefore the match in BBC reseption when he was up to record Sportsnight I think it was. After getting his autograph, we confidently suggested that England were going to get hammered at Wembley this time around. When he'd finished laughing he said 'No chance lads'. Which was true. 3-1 reversal to the Tartan Army. :(
