England v Scotland at Wembley in the mid 80's we won 2-1 and was in the end underneath the Scotland fans who were burning unions jacks and george crosses.

a strange one but Chelsea v Man City full members cup final when Chelsea won 5-4 and it had about six goals in the last five minutes of the match

Plymouth v Brighton in 2001 was pretty special

Was that the one where the oaf tried to re-create the scene out of the Young Ones by sticking his head out of the window as an express train approached from the opposite direction?

blimey BMF... being picked up on those sort of technicalities takes me back :lolol:

my original request was to keep it UK based as overseas trips are always likely to raise the tariff (e.g. Ashes 02/03) but I see anarchy has prevailed as usual...

anyone done the Ryder Cup or a big boxing match?

I would like to take you back to your first posting where it clearly states "exclude Foreign travel" and not as posted above:p Not done a major Golf event but think that would be a great experience. London Marathon is probably a good day out as well.

I read that as the Scotland fans who were burning onions !

I had a great day out at the Sherpa Van Final in 1988 when Wolves took 50,000 down to Wembley as a 4th Division club and won 2-0...

Cheltenham Festival. First time there was to see Kribensis win the Champion Hurdle in 1990, haven't missed a day since and only the bloke with the big scythe will keep me away in future.

In fact, I might ask to have my ashes scattered by the winning post so that I can always be there in spirit.

Cardiff will always be tough to beat but for sheer atmosphere and emotion, it has to be the 1987 UEFA cup final. Yeah, bit of an odd one as it was Dundee united v Gothenburg and I'm not scottish or swedish but I'll never forget the reception Gothenburg received at Tannadice after they'd won and did their lap of honour - it couldn't have been louder if United had one. A real case of grown men crying due to the sheer emotion and the pride in their team, rather than tears of disappointment.

Favourite racing days out:

- The Arc, always a cracking weekend, especially if going by Eurostar. And witnessing Dancing Brave's victory there (best horse never to win The Derby)
- First day of Royal Ascot, meet same people once a year in EXACTLY the same spot in exactlythe same pub. Drunkenness and mayhem. Top quality racing
- Glorious Goodwood Sussex Stakes Day. Going up to the course in that cranky old bus, view from the roof of the Grandstand is the best of any course in England
- Brighton Races on a Summer's day
- Plumpton Races on a Winter's day

Best (non-Albion) days out:

British Grand Prix 1986 - (one of?) the last at Brands Hatch. Nigel Mansell leads Nelson Piquet by 0.2 seconds from start to finish...

Gillette Cup Final 1976 - Lancs v Northants. Didn't support either team (my dad had free tickets), but it was my first introduction to live cricket, and I'll always remember David Hughes cracking 26 runs (including three sixes) off the last Lancs over. They still lost though, thanks to Peter Willey...

Worst (non-Albion) day out:

Detroit Lions v Chicago Bears at the Pontiac Silverdome 1988 (yes I know it says "no foreign stuff", but I was over there anyway so didn't travel "abroad" to see it). Three and a half hours of mind-numbing tedium, and eternal TV advert breaks holding up play, with only piss-awful Bud in plastic beakers to alleviate the show. Even the cheerleaders were so far away you couldn't see them. I think the Bears won, but I'd fallen asleep hours before, so can't be sure...

Fond memories of watching England v Scotland at Wembley in 1977. That was the year they won 2-1 and took the goalposts and pitch home as souvenirs...

But I did get to sit at the next table to Rod "Cor blimey guvner, I'm Sco'ish ain't I, dontcha know" Stewart at lunch that day.

brighton, actually
1983 FA cup semi final, at Higbury. As a wee lad this was my first trip on my own (ie, no parents), and I remember turning up at the Goldstone to see a seemingly never ending line of buses etc queued up, waiting to wait the BHA faithful to London.

The atmosphere going up was great, though I was nervous, and kept checking I still had my ticket safe.. approaching Highbury, the blue/white shorts, flags, scarves etc were everywhere!

somehow managed to get into the open terrace behind one of the goals - it was VERY crowded, so god help you if you needed to get out again, for a pee!

the heat, under age beer and general excitement made the rest a blur, until Jimmy Case i think it was scored a belter, to take us into the final agaisnt Man U.

cue more singing and boucing about, and then back to the coach for a tiring but fun ride back- ringing the bell all the way!

going to the the final was good too, but Highbury was my highlight.
