Second Match.

Brighton Hove & Sussex v Cardinal Newman (local rivals). 1975.

For the 1st XI. We had never beaten them through all the years we played them. Ian Feeley organised a new kit - (the previous kit was a pale yellow "you look like a bunch of pansies") and that was the first day we wore it. Red and Black stripes (like Man City) - a classic kit.

1-1 with 10 minutes left. We were in their box and our winger gets to the dead-ball line and pulls the ball back to about the penalty spot - I was running into box and met it with a side-foot (determined not to blast it over the bar) that went along the ground and just inside the far post - beting the flat-footed keeper and a lad on the line.

Cue mass celebrations, including a punch-up on the touch-line.

Probably my best footballing moment.

Guess who was involved on the touchline?

;)

Tideway vs Kings Manor quarter final...

drew 1-1 game went to penalties...

i saved 6 of the 9 penalties that were taken in the end to see us through to the semi final...

including a pen from Ben Watson who at the time was at the Albion so felt good to tip his penalty onto the post :)

also Tideway vs Patcham semi final...

2-2 after normal time ended up winning 4-2 after extra with Jake Robinson scoring 3 of our goals... including a sublime lob when one on one with the keeper at 2-2 in extra time...

I was always shit at footie. So only ever made the Hertford Road B team and played in 2 games. Remember losing 7-0 to Balfour. I was in defence but I blame our goalkeeper :D My other game was also against Balfour we drew 2-2 but their team this ttime was a year younger :lolol: This was in the 60's. I never made it to the Stringer side. I wonder why :D

Being shite at football I never made the school team except for a team of rejects they entered into some local competition (for what must have been purely for the comedy factor for the teachers).

We didn't disappoint. Stuck in defence, (good idea to put your weakest and skinniest in the back four, Mr PUGSLY. Junior school football coaching at it's most clueless.) I was running back to pick up a ball on the edge of the my own penalty area when I noticed my keeper had the same idea.

Despite my calling to claim the ball the COCKER runs out and boots it full on, by which time I'm three feet, and face-on, in front of him. He gets just enough power and rise on it to make it hit me clean in the centre of my FACE, loop over him and roll gently int our own net.

My face was all red and sore as I cried all the way untill the final whistle.

Oooh, can't decide:

For Hampden Park School:

1. Beating a Hillcrest side that included future Albion legends Scott Ramsay and Duncan Macarthuer 4-3 in the County Cup final.

2. Beating a full-strength William Parker side, including Gareth Barry, 10-2. I believe the first and only time Parker have conceded 10 in a game.

3. Beating Lancing College 5-1 in the Yr 10 County Cup quarter final when they were the holders. Bittersweet this one because we then proceeded to smash up their canteen and four of our team got expelled (our four best players).

4. Playing for South East sussex v Worthing Boys at the Goldstone. Won 4-2.

At Hampden Park we had some seriously good players, Chris Piper and Lee Goldsmith spring to mind, sadly drugs and prison got the better of them.

Anyone from Varndean? They don't appear to have a very good sporting history until my year who won the treble and r hopefully on there way to doing the same again. The only previous success came through Russell Martin of Wycombe and . . . Tommy Fraser

That depends on whether you mean Varndean High School or Varndean 6th Form College. Football wasn't played at Varndean High school until 1979 - because it wasn't allowed:angry:

We were rather good at lacross as I seem to recall:lolol:
