I havent missed the point I still considered them punk as did many others YOU decided they were now too mainstream because their lead singer wasnt offing himself or whatever criteria you decided was still punk and were now far too popular.

Blondie was more abba than punk

I was there!

Saw them 3 times in London, 1980-82. Action Space, Hammersmith Palais, and somewhere else that escapes me. Before Mr Pew got banged up. Emotional.

I was a bit more new wave/mod revival than punk tbh, but these were amongst the classics for me:

New Rose - The Damned
Stranded - The Saints
I wanna be sedated - The Ramones
Suspect device - Stiff Little Fingers
Babylon's burning - The Ruts
In the city - The Jam
No more heroes - The Stranglers
Looking after no 1 - Boomtown Rats

Saw SLF, The Jam and the Boomtown Rats, but actually was much more into Television, XTC, Magazine, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, and the pre-punk rhythm and blues with attitude of Dr Feelgood, Graham Parker etc

Wow that must have been some gig.

Over 100 tunes on the night?

Ha! Ramones played for 35 minutes. That meant 17-20 songs. Bit of a rip off but I was plumb****erd at the end. They used to call their gigs 'jobs'. Strange right wing oddballs. Imagine a talented vrsion of Looney, PPF, Prancing Ninny (JCFG) and one of the other dweebs on here, all in leather jackets, and that was the Ramones. :lolol:

The Saints were amazing. Menacing. Pity the fat singer had to wear a school tie...and had long hair... but anyway...

Seem to recall the other band on the bill was ...the Pirates!
