I used to love going into porn shops as it seemed so edgy and dangerous.

it seemed so shameful that I only went to Soho as I knew that I would be spotted in Brighton.

Don't think I ever bought anything as once I plucked up the courage to go in, my excitement quickly ebbed away as it wasn't sexy. They were too brightly lit, the mannequins looked hideous in the outfits, the staff were miserable grotty men, and it all seemed frankly ridiculous.

Plus all the videos were wither fake titted Americans or hairy Germans - and the women weren't much better..................boom tish

How soon is now?
I popped into the one on Sydney St a few years back, trying to get a mate something from secret Santa. We had a budget of £5. When I asked if he had anything for a fiver, the guy looked at me with utter contempt and said ‘fvck off mate, this is a porn shop’. I laughed, and left

There’s one along the Lewes Rd near Speedy Spares, my folks used to use before going in The Labour Club. It was 1979 mind

I don’t remember a Speedy Spares in Lewes Rd, I know there is one on the Old Shoreham Rd Portslade, that one has been there for many years.
My dad was always nipping down Speedy Spares to get something for his Cortina, maybe he was really going for a pint in the Labour Club :)

Speedy Spares in OSR was meat n drink to my old man in the 70s/80s. The one on Lewes Rd was on ….well I can’t remember….I agree, it wasn’t Speedy Spares it was nowhere near as big. The name’ll come to me I’m sure. The Pawn shop was near where Neil Sutherland Estate Agent is now. That caught my eye because it’s the kiddie from The Inbetweeners

I remember some shops really well in Lewes Rd seeing as I lived nearby, I just can’t picture a car spares shop.

I’ve been looking at the My Brighton and Hove website and searched Lewes Road, I saw the name Edowns mentioned, no other details though.

Just found this in an online search.

The name of the shop definitely sounded familiar but I just can’t remember going in there.

Not sure about best but I saw one on George Street in Hove at the weekend - I remarked to Mrs DCH that you don't see them often these days.

A quick google seems to say that they are GA Pawnbrokers based in Brighton, Hove and Worthing
