It's a black Tuesday of that there is no doubt. Best Mate was one of jump racing's greats. It was travelling well, but dropped back quickly and got pulled up, then collapsed.

Special word goes to Rodney Marsh on Talksport who said of owner Jim Lewis "the question has to be asked, if he had not run the horse, would it still be alive"

he was withdrawn from attempting his 4th gold cup win the day before with a burst blood vessel - so yes you are right and maybe it was.

all race horses, and especially jumpers are flogged into the ground. if you see a horse trotting round a field it doesnt run flat out for 3 miles, or try and jump over 10ft high walls does it ?
