It's a thought...I'd hurry up.

From the Old Jokes Home: I like bestiality, sado-masochism and necrophilia - am I flogging a dead horse?

At ten years old, was he run into the ground? I dont know how long they live for....

Ten years isnt old for a nag, sounds like he had a few health problems though.

It's a black Tuesday of that there is no doubt. Best Mate was one of jump racing's greats. It was travelling well, but dropped back quickly and got pulled up, then collapsed.

Special word goes to Rodney Marsh on Talksport who said of owner Jim Lewis "the question has to be asked, if he had not run the horse, would it still be alive"

OF COURSE IT WOULD YOU THICK TWAT!!

Great shame and a fantastic horse. Had the priviledge to see him win a gold cup at Cheltenham he was so impressive.

I think this bloke got a bit carried away though...

Edward Gillespie, boss of Cheltenham where Best Mate enjoyed so much success added: “He had the biggest impact on the sport of any horse in the last 40 years. "

Red Rum anyone?

If I remember rightly,He was pulled out of a race last year with a bleed, could this have been the start of his troubles? :(

he was withdrawn from attempting his 4th gold cup win the day before with a burst blood vessel - so yes you are right and maybe it was.

Listening to the guy afterwards weeping as he described what that horse meant to him was pretty moving, I must admit.

he was only crying cos is bet didn't pay out

bet hes laughing today now he's checked the insurance documents

all race horses, and especially jumpers are flogged into the ground. if you see a horse trotting round a field it doesnt run flat out for 3 miles, or try and jump over 10ft high walls does it ?

Its a bit sad and all that I suppose, but some of the outpourings of GRIEF I've been hearing in the media is a bit OTT I think. Its only a horse.

True. If I wanted to hear about how tragic it is every time an animal dies, I'd a) go vegetarian and b) watch Animal sodding Hospital.

Presumably it's all fair enough when a nag gets shot at a racetrack for breaking its leg?
