Powerful stuff.

I had a mate growing up who could not (literally could not) hear 'Everybody hurts' by REM without physically breaking down. He never did share what the story was behind it, but it was clearly, visibly very painful.

It's weird how songs can trigger emotions and remind you of certain situations, good or bad.

If heaven calls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead

All this talk of getting old
It's getting me down my love....

Son I'm thirty. I only went with your mother 'cause she's dirty.

And I don't have a decent bone in me, what you get is just what you see....

Totally Manc attitude - I lived in and around the place late 80's early 90's Happy Mondays represented the place far more than any other band!

Whenever I see a police car/officer I can't help sing but 'F**k the police' by NWA in my head, even though I've got nothing against them and am a completely law abiding citizen, but my brain has just connected that one line outburst with that visual image.

Edit: No offence, Edna.

Being serious for a minute:

"Two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude"

"Because I've been up here for a while, I'm starting to feel the monotony of the tower block"

"I said to Hank Williams How lonely does it get, Hank hasn't answered me yet"

"I wish I had lipstick on my shirt instead of piss stains on my shoes"

"You can check out any time you like but you can never leave"/"they stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast" [not sure which line I like better]

"last night I dreamed that somebody loved me no hope no harm just another false alarm"

"If I go insane will you still let me join in your games"

"I never thought it would happen with me and a girl from Clapham"

"I beg your pardon I never promised you a rose garden"

"I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours but I think that God's got a sick sense of humour"

"I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you"

last one from me....

"Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure?
Can I believe the magic of your sighs?
Will you still love me tomorrow?"

...oh my. Just remembered my favourite line in any song ever..

"did you exchange a walk on part in a war for a lead role in a cage?"

That is magnificent.

The screen door slams
Marys dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what Im here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we aint that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You aint a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

That one hits the spot - fond memories of hearing/seeing it live at Earls Court.

Otherwise

"Ying Tong, Ying Tong, Ying Tong, Ying Tong, Ying Tong, Iddle I po"

Agreed. I posted that in all seriousness. It's one of the greatest opening lines to a song ever. I lived in a squat in Whalley Range for a few months after finishing my degree in the very early 90s and got to see that attitude you mentioned first-hand too.

Newmarket.
I kiss your lips slowly while I undo your dress, my hand reaches down to gently caress. But there's something there that I didn't expect, it's hot and fleshy and it's getting erect.

I've been cheated tonight, transvestite

Is this some kind of joke, you're really a bloke.

This really spoke to me, when I was a sulky teenage geek with no bird:

There's a club, if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home
And you cry
And you want to die

A couple of Libertines ones.

Her old man, he don't like blacks or queers. Yet he's proud we beat the Nazis (how queer...)

If you've lost your faith in love and music, then the end won't be long.

Inspirational:
"When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, 'cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes."

Meaningful:
"I found it hard, it's hard to find
Oh well, whatever, never mind"

I was just thinking of that one. I'll go with:

Good times for a change
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad

So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time.

Nowadays is it more like this?

This bed is on fire
With passionate love
The neighbours complain about the noises above
But she only comes when she's on top
