Round the back, by the bins.
West Sussex Golf Club is widely regarded as the best golf course in the UK never to have hosted a PGA competition.

If you qualify to play there, and can afford it, I think you'll find it simply the best golf course you've ever played.

West Sussex Golf Club

My dad was an artisan (restricted membership) at the West Sussex so I have played it many times and I have to agree. It is a fantastic course. The sixth hole was once voted as one of the best 18 holes in the country. Unfortunately the artisan system was done away with years ago and I haven't played there since but it is still in great nick and if you ever get the chance to play there, do it.

I played Friday (yes in the rain) for first time in 18 months at Rookwood Horsham. Still a good course but standing water became a problem. Back 9 was a nightmare into the strong wind  But I was pleased with a few pars and a birdie

Just back from Crowborough Beacon GC after my first REMF warm up of the year.

Crowborough is very old, traditional (stuffy) and expensive.
Greens is poor condition, but this is the best weather we have had for months.

Harveys on tap though

I'm a crazy golf person myself.

Tried Rottingdean: a good day out - but don't do it if you've
had five pints of premium lager.

Hove seafront: needs attention - my ball got stuck in the windmill.
also don't do this if you're in a bad mood. Paying for a replacement
miniature merry-go-round is costly.

Worthing: waste of £2.50, if I'd paid that is.

Any other suggestions welcome.

I Like Kingfisher - Nice enough course, great clubhouse and good value - normally about £15 quid in the week at any time. If you ever get the chance, play the waterfall course there which is very nice.

Looking to be a nice day tommorrow - tempted to get out myself now, possibly mid sussex

Having played Mannings Heath once, it was a good course I thought. A bit tiring for me, rather undulating in places. Nice clubhouse.

One question I have for the golfers amongs you all: why are the people who work at golf clubs in the clubhouse, etc invariably miserable b*stards?

Its a real strange one, Ive been playing golf on full courses now for about 6 months & am now teetering on handicap standard top end of course, about 28.

The mad thing is take tommorrow for example, Ive been watching the albion up and down the country for years and years and they mean the world to me...but down to a choice tommorrow my £25 is going to spent playing 3-4 hours of golf instead of the withdean....i have just fallen in love with the game!

Just wish I was better!!!!

BYF, I took a ten year sabatical from watching the Albion :eek:on a Saturday to play golf and loved every minute of it.

I started at Avisford Park (Stakis?) and progressed onto Hill Barn where I had a Season Ticket for about 9 years.

The best course I played in West Sussex was Tilgate Park in Crawley. It's not for the faint hearted and you need to drive it straight but for a council owned course it was the best IMHO.

Good luck with the Golf it's pretty addictive once you get going ie break 100.

BYF - I started playing regularly about 3 years ago and was spanking the ball in all directions. However a4 or 5 sessions will Neil Plimmer at Mid Sussex really helped and not average about 90 a round.

Neil is a top top bloke and an even better coach (voted top 20 by golf monthly last year) - and if you enjoy golf now, wait until you see progress, believe me you will enjoy it more.

Thanks mate.

I was shooting 108 on a consistant basis....then had 1x lesson with a guy at Burgess hill golf centre who gave me some good tips. and I broke 100 twice, I think I need to go back as Im not looking to be a world beater, but playing to a semi decent standard, ie mid handicap is something Id like to achieve.

Played Mannings heath today in what was the most gorgeous spring day you could wish for.

A fantastic course and one of the best ive played, nothing too breathtaking but it has a great mix of short, mid range and a couple of long ones.....the fact that its tree lined too makes it feel very nice indeed.

I kept my cool and got my best score of 96 that ive recorded twice before!

Happy days!

In my computer
Interesting this thread, given my recent health warning and current battery of tests from the doctor re stress and lack of activity I've been contemplating getting the clubs out of the loft. Would be a far cry from my 21 handicap I got to some xxx years ago though.

Any driving ranges within a yoo-hoo of Shoreham? Fancy a night out to a driving range Tricky Dicky?
