Wata of Boris is a good shout. Also, Carrie Brownstein of Sleater Kinney/Wild Flag.

Wendy Melvoin or Tina Weymouth.

Wendy Melvoin, definitely. David Byrne made Tina Weymouth audition for her own job as Talking Heads' bass player and tried to replace her with Busta Cherry Jones ...

I had never heard of them before, I have now, really liking it

Sister Rosetta Tharpe

I just love the Sister, I have a compilation album of hers, 'Up above my Head', if you ever need cheering up a bit, I thoroughly reccomend it.

have you seen this one, recorded in a disused railway station in Manchester

Beat me to it with Sister Rosetta! Here's the full documentary.......

Lots of other good names mentioned so far, but Sister Rosetta Tharpe was in a completely different class.

many years ago in the early sixties I used to go to the Chinese jazz club in Brighton who uses to have the top blues artists from America appear there. One night Sister Rosetta Tharp was the guest, I had never heard of her but after a few minutes I could not believe what I was hearing, she was simply unbelievable on the guitar

Maybe not the best, but I think they made some good tunes and had some pretty decent musicians in the group. Sarah-Jane was a handy guitarist.

Miranda Joyce was horn.

More votes for Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly, you got two for the price of one when you went to a Throwing Muses gig.

As they are stepsisters they would certainly be the best female and related guitarists I would have thought.... :guitar:

I knew a bloke that shagged the bass player from Throwing Muses in about 88/89 if that helps?
